hi.

i recently installed me1 again to play it on my new pc(win7). but i have some audio issues.

1 - in the movies audio is a little out of synch. for example, on eden prime when we first see ashley, geth drones hit her, her shield gets damaged. i hear that shields damage voice slightly later.

2 - in the dialogs sometimes the one that we are talking to seems like cutting their last word of sentence in half. for example:

shep: how are you?
x: i am fine, than-

both this problems wasnt there when i was playing on xp. any suggestions?

I had this issue with sound drivers. I swapped to a different sound card and it was fine.

You can always try compatibility mode of course, but I don't think it will help.

ME1 has a *lot* of troubles with onboard, when I ran RealTek I got all my gun sounds 'cut off', using a Creative X-Fi in Windows 7 has been fine though. When playing on a laptop I had some pecularities too, but I use a plug-in USB X-Fi for that now and again that seemed to fix it.

Sorry there is not really anything more to say; they changed the audio subsystem substantially in ME2 at least, it seems much more robust.

I installed ME 1 about a week ago and had no sound issues at all until I patched the game to grab BDtS. Guess it's a reinstall for me...

Onboard Realtek, Gigabyte mobo.  Win XP, Core 2 duo @ 2.66, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 7600 gs.

I realise I'm late to this game, and that this issue has probs been done to death, but if there are any possibles fixes available I'd appreciate some feedback to save even more searching than I've already done. My drivers are up to date. I've tried disabling hardware sound and have messed with various slider options.

Cheers!

Took me ages to find this but you have to do two things.

First is to change your Audio setting in game from Hardware to Software.

Second, you will have to open up more sound channels for the game to use. I guess for some sound cards it sets it too low so once the game hits it's cap sound starts to clip, gun fire most notably. To do this you'll have to go into the Config folder found in your Bioware/Mass Effect folder and open up BIOEngine.ini in notepad or something.

You should most likely back this up before changing anything.

Anyway, find "[ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice]" and under that look for "MaxChannels=" It's my understand that if it's set at 32 you should change it to 64, and if it's at 64 then change it to 512. Save it and you should hopefully be good to go!
Mine was set at 64 and after changing it to 512 I have had no problems that I've seen. Still get stuck in elevators from time to time though... <_<

Many thanks  :)

I've actually already reinstalled since I'd read so many conflicting suggestions about this issue, and I'm an impatient bugger, but your recommendations make a lot of sense and I'll certainly apply them down the track.   The sound isn't too bad with an out-of-the-box install, though can be improved by messing some with the Realtek audio manager.

Anyway, I'll finish this run without the dlc and patch but, as I say, no doubt I'll have use for your suggestions later on.  Mass Effect 2's sound set-up any better?

Cheers, mate!

EDIT:  applied your suggestions without the patch and I must say that the sound is certainly mucho bettero!

Thanks again!  Repatching....  :)

Yes, Mass Effect 2 does a much better job at handling sound as well as pretty much everything. The PC port was basically an after thought and Bioware wasn't even the one do it. Mass Effect 2 on the other than was made with the PC in mind.

Patch 1.1 caused the problems and playing without the patches is the only real way to solve it. I never had any trouble with the game but read about some problems fixed with the patches. I think the main reason for patch 1.1 was to prepare the game for btds and 1.2 to fix 1.1 :). Changing your config file (search for mass effect maxchannels) solves some of the problems but it's still annoying. For me btds is no reason to ruin the game experience for all the other content.

hmm.... i haven't thought about that... now one question occurs, as i already am kind of in the middle of the game, meaning lots of hours spent so far: will my v1.02 (or 1.2? dunno; you know what i mean ^^) saves work with a unpatched, un-BDTS-ed v1.00??

cheers
