I think you may want multiplayer...

But I just don't think its going to be what you think it is --- there's a problem with people playing set characters with set stories and dialouge trees. Its an RPG --- with triggers, cut scenes, and a script to play.

What your probably going to see  ( if there was one)  would be a stand-alone Multiplayer aside from the main game in which you have...  how ever many levels they make whether it be a planet, ship, or base...  and your able to select different alien races and such with a few weapons.

I think there was a discussion like this before... what is the other player going to do --- click on the various character's responce trees ?  What happens to the Paragon/Renegade point system?  Its too set based to have people meddle with it in game... its going to have to be something aside from it.

Seems as if no one is reading my original post :(,

MEM should be a completely different storyline from the single player story.

Well what I'm saying is --- why does there need to be any store to it?  I should think the multiplayer would have Krogans, Salarians,  Asari ect --- multiplayer isn't for stories, its to shoot your friends up in a mindless skirmish or set competitive game.

I was more talking about some individuals who may believe they could actully co-op in a set RPG. It would be very... off shall you say.

But as a stand lone MP.  Sure... I mean it can be done.  I doubt it would be hard to do... although you know... if you really wanted MP...why not just add it to a Mass Effect FPS instead? That way you know the talents will be zeroed in on such things rather than being a side note to the RPG?

I believe ME needs a story driven multiplayer is because ME is such a story driven series, thats all. The multiplayer would feel empty if it didn;t have that Mass Effect cinematic quality.

RPG's are RPG's

Shooters are Shooters.

You get certain things from either one. Why however, would you play as Protheons when players would be interested in playing the other races that they've seen throughout ME1 - ME3?

I disagree on the Shooters are Shooters thing.
Look at COD, GOW, and Bioshock. All great shooters with a great storyline.

I advocate the protheans because theyre story would easily be cannon with the Mass Effect Universe because it takes place before the Mass Effect Series even started. The devs could do a whole lot more without worry of contradicting themselves.

Look... don't get me wrong but...  you can't compare the stories of  COD, GOW --- ok...maybe Bio Shock to a certain point as that is a totally different game it itself --- but c'mon dude...  COD? GOW?  Flimsy stories at best with little to do in depth and more to do with explosions, reflexes, and  rounds.  I'm sorry... I see no comparison.

I beg to differ, the COD series has come a long way in its story telling attribute, It may not be as intricate as ME but you can't deny that it's not at least somewhat compelling. GOW had a great storyline, it was slightly cliche but high quality nonethless.

I'm not trying to argue. I'm just discussing and defending some of my reasonings. This is a good debate.

this is why i snap all the time when i see these threads. im sorry but cod and gow shooter elements? **** no!. bioware should keep the me2 shooting system but somehow reintroduce specific mechanics from me1.. that way you have a steroids type combonation and the fans of mass effect will be satisfied

No, I would never want COD/GOW of war shooting elements in the main mass effect storyline (single player). Multiplayer perhaps but never in the single player.

I like shooters just as much as you do --- I just got Modern Warfare 2 ( brutal game) and your right, they've come a very, veeeery long way... but I can't agree to the stage we are discussing with Mass Effect... its just not a comparison for me.

The Shooter genre is very linear. Very short and to the point. Its got its point A to point B with a lot of action. I would not want RPG elements to be placed into my shooters because their not made for that. No inventory --- just what you got and where you need to get to.

Now...granted...this is a mix genre game.  Fair enough.   It appears that keeping this balanced is the problem because each side may have its own releative base that wants their own ideas dropped into it...and somtimes those wants and needs just can't co-exist for obvious reasons.

There basically needs to be some middle ground where both elements are basically as they should be.  Where that ends and begins... hey who knows.

Thats why I'm saying... it would be alot better if there was an exclusive shooter --- with Multiplayer because then you would have people knowing what they want, it would be a game taylored to such a creation  AND... this doesn't mean it doesn' t need to be a run and gun either... it probably could use some depth but a much bigger emphasiss on FPS/TPS.

This would make more sense to me because then your not trying to add something that wasn't in  2 games of a 3 game trilogy.

Agreed, if they were to make a multiplayer for Mass Effect. I would like to have a story to it (not rpg length or quality) but the story should be second to the multiplayer gameplay. As you stated, I want to be able to hop in a shoot things with friends at a fast pace. But the thing is I wouldnt want MEM to have no association with the original series. I would want a link between the two.

Bioshock 2's multiplayer was story driven and it was superb.

Well I do believe this has been already attempted with the  Star Craft series with that spin off on  those Ghost recon soilders. ( I forgot the actual name for them --- Kerrigan was one before she became  the alien version).  Don't really know how successful it was but spin-offs with their own type of  game genre that are a part of the main story isn't hard to do and it has been done so I can't see why thats not something on the table.

I can't wait for ME3 to come out so this bull will go away. I'm willing to bet my life savings that the job ad is for a Mass Effect spin-off title.

I'm sorry but i personally would see that this would go wrong just like BioShock 2. It tried Multiplayer and its stagnated. I don't really think MP should be in Mass Effect.

However, if it was i wouldn't really want to be Prothean Vs Reapers.

I do not want to see a FPS style competitive multiplayer, I just don't think it'd work. I would like a separate co-op story where I can create a new character (in any race) and customise and level up this character too. And just blast through some Geth with my buddies!

I have one really heavy overarching plan for ME3 multiplayer, and it involves not having multiplayer.

Also, the problem with coop is that it simply takes from the main game. Tell me a game with a seperate coop story where the main game did not seem to be shorter.

Sure why not... it could end up being pretty unique.

This. It would be a bad way to end the series.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Why does every game need multiplayer? It always takes up resources and time the developer could be using to make a great singleplayer, come up with new side quests, fix bugs ect. If you want multiplayer go play Halo, COD, L4D or just about every other game out there.

Is that a rpg? No.

And I would like the end of the ME trilogy to be amazing, long, and with as little bugs as possible thank you very much.

Why do people want multiplayer in everything? I dont get it, almost every single multiplayer game out there is identical, Halo and COD are two examples, and both of them lack in a good singleplayer. It's multiplayer that has put me slightly off Dead space 2, and made me not get Bioshock 2.

I would like a multiplayer game in the Mass Effect universe in the future, but I don't want that game to be ME3, that should be the epic conclussion to the single player RPG, and all focus put in that department.

The last thing I want is to have 12 year olds using words they don't understand over my speakers, on my tv, in my living room. STFU and GTFO. Multiplayer will butcher this franchise and this one of the few great single player experiences out there. I don't play videogames to mingle with other people. If I want to do that I pick up the phone or go out.
