So I consider myself something of an expert at this game now, and I've beaten the game once on hardcore with an assault sentinel, twice on insanity with an infiltrator, and am halfway through another insanity playthrough with the  assault sentinel. To be honest, its getting a little stale. Soon I will be able to get LoTSB, but in the mean time...

I need a new class.

Sentinel and Infiltrator are probably the easiest classes to beat insanity with (although on certain missions where CQB isn't an option the SG assault sentinel can be pretty weak).

I need something harder, and something different than my two other characters. Help me out please! What would differ most in playstyle from a cqb adept or a long ranged infiltrator? What would be HARDER?

BTW I play on Xbox if that has any effect.

In my experience, the Vanguard has the steepest learning curve of all classes when it comes to Insanity. It is not easy to get the hang of Charge, but once you do, it's incredibly satisfying. I cannot recommend any class more than the Vanguard.

Close quarters combat is not as easy on the xbox due to turning speeds and the melee button and turning being mutually exclusive (in most cases). But it's still more than doable to have a successful, Charge-heavy Vanguard run through Insanity.

Well, it will depend on if you want another shooting class or a casting class. The biggest change would be to play an Adept or Engineer, with alternate of Vanguard. Vanguard is a blast to play, but comes down to a bunch of close quarters combat, but at an accelerated rate. My personal favorite class is the Adept followed by the Vanguard, then Infiltrator, Soldier, and haven't managed to play a full game of Sentinel or Engineer, will soon maybe.

So you have to decide what you want, how much of a change and then go from there. I say go adept for a total change away from guns and then a follow up of Vanguard for a radical difference.

Engineer (?)

They are primarily tech specialists, their strengths are attacking through enemy defenses and disabling opponents.
They use a combat drone and have the A.I. hacking ability (two new tactics you'll have to adapt to for your PC to use).

And, IIRC, they have the weakest defenses and/or weapon damage output of all the classes, making it more of a challenge to survive.

You do however get one very nice bonus, upgrade the passive class power to 4 & you'll have a 25% discount on the amount of resources needed for research projects.

Here's a Link you can read & judge for yourself.

Although they might lack direct defenses, the Combat Drone is so effective at distracting enemies that it more than compensates for this.  In my experience, Engineers really don't have any troubles with survivability.

Since you're an expert, why not really challenge yourself:

[ > First, make it an NG+ insanity run. Import at least a lvl 30 ME2 character. Then choose either Vanguard or Engineer.
[ > Limit your upgrades. Either zero or one single upgrade per weapon/ability (nothing past 1 point invested in any talent).
[ > Only use the M3 Predator pistol and you can't pick up more than 3 clips per engagement.
[ > Only use the default N7 armor with no helmet.
[ > You must make all neutral choices (no renegade/paragon or blue/red).
[ > Finally, either position your squad around the corner out of sight, or use the save editor and roll solo.

Good Luck!

You can change your class on an NG+? I did NOT know that. If so I'll probably go NG+ engineer with no bonus power/squadmates that can deal with barriers. Horizon/suicide will be... fun.

that being said, intentionally handicapping myself won't really make the game more fun, I just want something harder than a tank or a dude the baddies can't see half the time.

EDIT: I'm also thinking about making a "Biotic Badass" Character. NOT an Adept, a vanguard with maxed out charge, pull, shockwave, reave, and passive. My vision is basically to play as Jack, with her shotgun and biotic strength.

Ooops. Sorry, forgot about that. No you can't change your class. Normally.

You can make a copy of your final save and use the save editor to change it before you import it, though. Or use the editor to change the class after import.

No worries, if you're not into tying your hands, then an insanity vanguard run should be fun.

On Xbox there's no save editors unless you want to actually expend effort. Which I don't.

I'd recommend the engineer, to be honest. its the furthest from your current playstyle but I've found it really fun.

The problem with maxing shockwave and pull and reave on an adept is that shockwave is pretty useless on higher difficulties, and you're losing the ability to get ammo powers which are really useful. maybe try: charge 4, shockwave 2, pull 1, Reave 10 and then put the rest in ammo powers. as a vanguard on insanity, you'd really want to up weapon damage if you plan on charging a lot.

Vanguard. Its defiantly going to be something harder, and its Charge and Shotgun affinity is gong to give u the most different playstyle from ur other two characters.

Shotgun Engineer, without GSB/Barrier/Fort/E-Drain/Reave.

Try playing with every class. This will make you a bigger expert (i finished both ME1 and ME2 with each class). This way the game wont bore you and you will learn more tactics :)

For some reason I still find Soldier the most fun to play. I thought I would get bored of bullet time, but like Max Payne, it just never happened.

This. Coming out of Assault Sentinel, Vanguard will fit you like a glove and still feel very different.

Vanguard is harder? Where?
If we are talking about the bugs in Charge, then OK, it's harder.

Vanguards are not harder because they lack powers, but because they are overly agressive.
It's charging and shooting and doing the hell in the battlefield ALL THE time.
And it's a fast way to beat the game, BTW, the battles become short very easily.

This becomes tiresome after time, you really have to be in the mood.

And remeber: Vanguards always play in red.

I guess a brand new Vanguard would be kind of hard to pick up on initially. Once you figure out who to charge, when, get charge maxed out, etc. then it will be "easy".

Recently I did a NG+ and it's rough without upgrades. Once you get your research upgrades though you'll go back to ripping through everything :)

After playing with different classes recently a "Revvy" Soldier is now the hardest for me to play just right.

-- Engineers are easy if you just spam drone

-- OP already did Infiltrator & CQC Adept

-- Widow Soldier is too similar to Infiltrator

-- Sentinels may be very familiar to what's already done

-- Once you figure it out Vanguards are easy enough

Out of what's left the Revvy Solider [for me] would be the hardest thing that's not a clone of something he's already done. The Vanguard ought to be quite fun too ... I got a kick out of it.
