You guys have some dirty minds, the first thing I thought was, 'Hey! A thread about game difficulty!'. lol
I'm gonna play on normal. As long as it's balanced.
Hard, anyone?

I always start out on easy first run through so I can see the story, then I crank it up
that is also how I enjoy the first runthrough of a new game so I have plenty of time to check things out thoroughly and not be constantly on the alert.

Hard
If I didn't want challenge or difficulty i'd go read a book or potato-back on the couch and see a movie..
Games these days are much much easier than they used to be. no wonder kids are getting stupid. :>

I'm doing quests in Denerim right now, after the Broken Circle quest. This game is WAY too hard on Normal mode. Sometimes, my party wipes in less than 15 seconds. I have to constantly pause and use health poultices and throw healing. This was fighting a group of thugs!
I enjoy challenging games, but come on. Replaying the same fight 30 times is ridiculous. My buddy has the Xbox version and says the game is easy. Not so for the PC.... Disappointing.

Have started on normal, but like others, I believe a game should bring enjoyment, and not become work-like or frustrating difficult. I have played many an rpg in my day, and enjoy the characters and the story more than a non-stop tactical pause/play session. I want to escape from my daily grind and therefore have no problem with dropping it down a notch if I get hung up on any one battle for too long. At this early point in my DA play, all my victories have been on normal, accept for one that I could just not get by; no matter how many tactical strategies I used. It became a bore to watch the rotating reload dragon symbol every 15 minutes. I did not feel cheated and was happy to move on with the story while sliding the scale back up to normal.

I had my game on Normal to start. I never set my games on anything but Normal, but yesterday I set it on Hard.
My characters are 15-16, and they're annihilating areas... Some fights seem difficult in the beginning when you are limited on abilities, but once you build your party versatility, the game does not remain that way. I dislike having to change the difficulty slider, but maybe it just means I'm doing things too perfectly!
...probably not though.

I'm currently playing on Hard; I have however lowered the difficulty on two encounters so far. I don't find any downside in playing at Hard difficulty - if ever I get stuck, I can always go to the options and temporarily change it.
