Definitely not the Protheans or any other races of the Milky Way galaxy.I bet it's a races of unknown antagonistic immortal deity-like creatures(super-advanced/high-tech beings possessing some form of telekinesis and telepathy) or even interdimensional beings from another galaxies/universes and it should be revealed in Mass Effect 3.

I hope we'll get to know this in ME3 or something, there are so many unanswered questions right now.

"In Norse mythology even gods can be killed during the Ragnarök".Cut to the chase,we got more actions in Mass Effect 3,fight the Reapers fleet, find a main gigantic Mass Relay which connects the whole galaxies in the universe and go right to the source!!  Destroy the Reaper's creators!

I didn't find the OP particularly interesting tbh, but your last post, much more so..

I like the idea of relays connecting various galaxies. I hope there is no deux ex machina style 'off switch' for the reapers in another galaxy somewhere, but I do believe that there is more to their origins that Sovreign would have us believe, and that ME3 will explore this further.

They did, they just don't want to admit it.

The reapers invented themselves in a crazy time-travel accident.

Or maybe God did it. Or a wizard. In his lab.

Or maybe they were just the result of an incredibly unlikely quantum probability.

Maybe the reapers started of as meat sacks and slowly evolved into a machine like state due to technological advancements?

I already explained this. A race of idiot shell-fish decided to turn themselves into giant starships because it would be "cool." But they got so bored they decided to harvest all life in the galaxy.

That's like asking 'who watches the watchmen?'

Like they said, they just "are", that is all that is relevant for Shepard & Co as well as the rest of the galaxy, so it probably won't getting revealed in ME3. Them having no apparent origin is an important aspect to the role they're supposed to play in the trilogy. It would make them less menacing, because we humans for one fear what we don't know or can not comprehend.

My theory on the origin of the reapers is Fry was messing around with Farnsworth's time travel toaster and accidentally sent Bender and Zoidberg back two million years....

They got busy.

I suspect we won't see much in the way of origin info on the Reapers but I'm hoping I am wrong. :P

In my opinion noone invented them, they evolved from scratch as humanity did. The fact they are not organic does not mean that someone had to invent them. They have intelligence far more evolved than IV and even AI, and the indoctrination process reveals a very deep knowledge of organic mind workings.

Also reapers could have reprogammed geths, but they choose to CONVINCE a part of them by logic, wich shows an approach that is more biologic than artificial.

So in my opinion reapers are not artificial, even if they are not organic.

I think... the keepers. I dunno why, but I have a feeling that the keepers were the 1st advanced species, millions of years ago who played too much with AIs and that those AIs became self aware => the reapers. It's just my speculation though...

I think the keepers are a race re-purposed by the Reapers themselves. A very, very old race, predating the Protheans.
