 Is there a way to make Sprint and Cover use two diffrent keys? I keep using charge then trying to run behind cover but well im sprinting away I get sucked onto a wall and die well trying to get off it.

Why are you sprinting away at all? You should be continually charging to restore your shields, and taking cover closer to your enemies.

For example: Like this

hes running behind cover to, whats happening to me is when i go to run behind somthing i get stuck on the wrong side of it and die, also im on the first mission getting mordin so i dont have the short charge cooldown yet. If I could have sprint and cover as diffrent keys then I wouldnt get sucked onto objects that I dont want to take cover on.

Yep, I died twice last night because I tried to sprint too close to a wall. In fact I think that's the reason for pretty much all of my deaths.

Sometimes Shepard takes cover when I do not want to (example Haestorm after you find the radio - I want to run for the 1st bomb and always enter cover behind the concrete block or whatever it is, just because it is nearby..annoying). Hopefully something they fix in ME3.

It's difficult to build a good cover system, and it's one thing done wrong in many games. Usually much, much worse than what you see in ME2.

Sometimes they'll make you press a button to get in cover. I find this annoying. But if you don't have to press a button then you can end up in cover by mistake.

Gears of War is probably the first game where I remember thinking "hey, this cover system actually kind of works!".

I never really noticed how frustrating the cover system in ME2 can be untill I recently started a vangaurd playthrough on insanity, the cover system alone is making me want to pull my hair out lol, and the extremly high mouse sensitivity is annoying aswell.

Until you get the hang of it, try using the tactical pause after each Charge.  You can line up shots, plot your escape route, and assign commands without worrying about dying.  Also, you shouldn't be sprinting to cover after a Charge if it's well planned, you should be walking or vaulting.  And until you get the time dilation (Heavy Charge), you need to be extra careful.

Personally I wish Vault was a separate key. The number of times I've died because I desperately sprinted into cover and then vaulted right over it...

It doesn't seem to be possible to assing sprinting and taking cover to separate keys. In coalesced.ini section [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase], there are separate commands for them, but the storm command alone seems to facilitate taking cover when storming to a cover. What I did was the following:

change the line

Bindings=( Name="Shared_Action", Command="Exclusive Used | TryClimbOrMantleCover | Exclusive TryAcquireCover | OnRelease StormOff | OnHold 0.2 StormOn | OnTap 0.3 TryExitCover 1" )

to

Bindings=( Name="Shared_Action", Command="Exclusive Used | TryClimbOrMantleCover | Exclusive TryAcquireCover | OnTap 0.3 TryExitCover 1" )

and create the line

Bindings=( Name="Shared_Storm", Command="OnRelease StormOff | OnHold 0.2 StormOn" )

In the section [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault],

Bindings=( Name="X", Command="Shared_Storm" )

Pressing my normal Shared_Action key, SHIFT, worked for taking cover but didn't work for storming, and storming to cover with the new storm key made Shepard take cover. :/

That can be done. In [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase] create the line

Bindings=( Name="Shared_Vault", Command="TryClimbOrMantleCover" )

and remove TryClimbOrMantleCover from the line

Bindings=( Name="Shared_Action" ... etc )

Then bind Shared_Vault to a new key in the section [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault]

Bindings=( Name="X", Command="Shared_Vault" )

:P Tested it, seems to work perfectly.

Vaulting over cover came up on the forums a few months ago, and some people had a lot of trouble with unintended vaulting over cover into enemy fire when they did not want to. A lot of other people said not a problem. I was one who had a lot of trouble with this and died a bunch of times - came from Halo games where its line-of-sight cover.

Playing on xbox - what happens is that you move behind cover ( but not in conver ) and while you take a lot of fire you press the A button to get in cover, which does not happen immediately so you press A again - then both A button presses process and you vault to your death.

Eventually I got used to always getting in-cover when I saw some cover, and now it almost never happens. If there is a dev looking at this please don't change it now that I am used to it. ;)

When there are lots of scattered crates. trying to storm past them often ends up translating to gluing your butt to the boxes IN FRONT OF ENEMY FIRE. I storm very sparingly because of this, slowly jogging around even if take some damage. I bet the most common deaths are either tapping the cover button too fast or unintentional butt-gluing.

Could it be a game engine issue? Since this is pretty much the same cover system as Gears of War..

I guess, I have never played a gears of war game and I dont own a xbox so im not sure if this problem is on the xbox version or not but what happens to me on pc is ill be storming either away or towards a enemy and ill get sucked onto a wall thats either on my left or right and then ill franticly try to get off the wall but on insanity you take to much dmg to stop and hump a wall so i always die when this happens. very frustrating as vanguard other classes it didnt bother me as much.

For me the issue is not so much sprint and cover being combined, but sprint/cover and 'use'.

That is also easily fixed with similar modifications to coalesced.ini as I showed above. Just make a new bind for the "Exclusive Used" command.

crucial, do the binds override the default. On the PC it's spacebar for sprint/cover/use/vault (+w). So, if I changed sprint and use to something else, would I still sprint and use if I pressed spacebar again?

The settings in [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase] define what the binds you assign to different keys either in coalesced.ini or in the in-game menu actually do. So if you remove the 'use' command from the Shared_Action, you won't be able to 'use' with your default key for sprint/use/cover.

The binds in the in-game menu override binds in the [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault] as far as I know, so to make something in that section work, you have to make sure the key is clear in the in-game menu.

Did that answer your question?

95% of my Soldier deaths.  No lie. 1% actually dying, 4% self-nuking via Cain.

Using tactical cloak to get to the wrong side of a cover makes you look like a very retarded infiltrator... xbox has the same key for cover, vaulting, sprinting, picking up items and talking

makes it very hard to run in illium or citadel without selecting all those annoying adds. Still, with time you get used to it

Ah right, on re-reading your posts I think I get it; will try it out later.

The game queues up keystrokes. That's why you vault over cover so often, because if you hammer the cover button when things get hot, the game interprets subsequent keypresses as "vault", so you vault out of cover and die.

cruc1al is back?

I'm glad other people list their number one cause of death as 'unintentionally leaving cover'. I feel slightly less of a rook. On xbox it is indeed a pain.

Nice, I'm with OniGanon - I too die occasionally when pressing the spacebar too liberally when Shep doesn't take cover immediately. It's really annoying to watch Shep jump over instead of taking cover and dies :?

Welcome back Cruc1al, and thanks for the tips - will try this tonight.
