Par Vollen is a chain of islands, yes? I have to say then that the Fex are aquatic creatures who are qunari outcasts obsessed with vanity!

Fex: "I bet there's more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking; I'm giving up the Qun to find out what."

Qunari: "I can't believe my son turned out to be a mermaid..."

Fex: "It's mer-MAN pop! Mer-MAN!"

Those are Tal'Vashot, I think.

David Gaider has already mentioned there won't be any talking animals, as it was too "high fantasy" for his liking. I thoroughly agree. Also, I hope the Fex are NOT lizardmen. I've hated that fantasy cliche ever since Oblivion and those annoying Argonians.

I keep going back to South America on the religion part, maybe without the virgin sacrifices. I think if this is a primitive, tribal society that their gods would reflect this. So they would worship gods for ward off or appease evil/pestilence, to bring plenty of food, ensure fertility, strengthen the hunter, secure the hearth. etc. I imagine it would be more druidic in nature as they live in a rather hostile environment and the environment itself would be their most potent enemy.

just an idea:
i can see my idea of golems race having a giant crystal core at the center of their city, worshiping it.
this crystal could be a simbiot to these creatures, so all their culture (looks, architecture, commerce, etc) would be related to this crystal.

This is also a very cool idea.  I keep thinking of Justice and how he says that Lyrium "sings".  Perhaps this is how these peolpe communicate or worship.  The crystal would resonate their thoughts, feelings, etc.  This would create a simbiotic link between them and the central crystal.  Gosh, they could be true ancestors of the dwarves.  I seem to recall that the dwarves were cursed and given flesh.  I could be mistaken.  Cold medecine is cloggin my mind right now.

i can imagine their city being similar to orzammar but with a crystal theme instead of just rock.
and as a community, i think they would be similar to the city elves and dwarves, tough and rough but very close like a family.

It would also be very insular and quite possibly very hidden.  If proximity to the crystal is necessary, then they would not wander far from the "hearth stone".  It would quite literally be the center of their universe.  I can imagine isolated communities, perhaps interlinked by roads that had crystaline veins.  This would allow them to stay connected and possibly communicate with other "tribes".  Any break in the vein would mean a community is "lost to the stone".  They would be physically, mentally, and posssibly emotionally cut off from the rest of theor kind.

Oh god. I hope not. Because of the expansionist nature of the Qunari, however, I'm more inclined to think the Fex are simply non-sentient animals to provide more variety to the types of things you can kill.

I have to agree that you have created a very interesting race.
But what about that masked ...thing you saw in the flashbacks of Hawke in the Destiny trailer, could that be a Fex?

And if it was why would it mask their face? Is it a ritual before a battle?

He said that they were sentient. I still think that they are the reason that some Qunari have horns and some don't.

Hmm... Well... Then I really hope they aren't furry. I liked having only 4 races, though. It allowed for more delving into the culture and history of each, rather than having 14 races with very little in-depth info on them. I hope adding the Fex won't impede the other four races at all, and that it isn't a harbinger of even more races to come. D;

Whe don't even know when the Fex will appear, might be in DA 2 but my guess is we won't see them yet.
Maybe as a DLC?

You have met all of the 'major" races in Dragon Age: Origins. That isn't to say that there aren't more that can and will be revealed in a future game or expansion or DLC or whatever, but for DAO you have met all the "biggies".

May I remind you that on Earth, there is only one species of sentient animals: Humans. ****** sapiens. On EVERY continent except Antarctica. Now, at certain times in our history, there have been other species in the ****** genus, but each has either interbred with sapiens enough to become indistinguishable from each other.

Just because there is another continent somewhere doesn't mean anything. D:

But that was before DAO was even released. It wouldn't be the first thing they changed since then.

I believe the masked individuals were Qunari mages.  I saw a screenshot of a Quanri with the masked individuals and it was confirmed by David Gaider that they were Qunari mages.

Intellectual property. The Dragon Age franchise.

Since they've shown qunari mages and claim that they haven't showcased them yet, I'd say no.
