Intellectual property. The Dragon Age franchise.

Since they've shown qunari mages and claim that they haven't showcased them yet, I'd say no.

Ok thank you very much ^^

Yup, didn't have the post above me when I typed that. Didn't know. Hmm no idea then, would hate to have them be too fantasy like. I like low fantasy or whatever it is called :-)

Well if the Fex and the Qunari are from the same homeland, we can assume one of a couple things, knowing that the Qunari are something of a militant, expansionist people:

A) The Qunari have conquered the Fex, making them followers of the Qun.

B) The Qunari have some sort of peace with the Fex. This could either be willingly by the Qunari, seeing as the Fex give their society some benefit and aren't worth conquered. It could be an uneasy peace because the Fex and Qunari are approximately military equals and see no benefit to a war of atrition. Or it could be that the Fex are the greater military power and the Qunari maintain peace so that *they* are not conquered.

C) The Qunari and Fex are currently at war. Either that battle is something of a stalemate or the Qunari are actually losing that fight, hence why they seek to expand to other realms.

Other things that we can intimate:

Since the Fex are not seen often outside of Par Vollen, that could mean that either A) They are not a technologically advanced race and cannot easily leave the shores of their island home or B) They are isolationists and choose not to leave and interact with the other races.

Other possibilities might include that their holdings on Par Vollen are not their homeland but a colony and that they are a race whose homeland is on another continent across the sea from Thedas.

We can speculate all we want about their appearance, but that's just shooting in the dark. They might be human, humanoid, mammalian, reptilian, amphibian, fish-like, avian, amorphous, whatever. Talk about shooting in the dark. But even just from knowing about the Qunari and knowing that this race somehow coexists in the same land as the Qunari, we can narrow down things about their culture.

I bet on learning a Codex entry or two about the Fex, but never actually seeing one.

Yes, and if whe do get another Qunari companion, he might say a thing or two about them.

i can imagine their city being similar to orzammar but with a crystal theme instead of just rock.
and as a community, i think they would be similar to the city elves and dwarves, tough and rough but very close like a family.

It would also be very insular and quite possibly very hidden.  If proximity to the crystal is necessary, then they would not wander far from the "hearth stone".  It would quite literally be the center of their universe.  I can imagine isolated communities, perhaps interlinked by roads that had crystaline veins.  This would allow them to stay connected and possibly communicate with other "tribes".  Any break in the vein would mean a community is "lost to the stone".  They would be physically, mentally, and posssibly emotionally cut off from the rest of theor kind.

i'm imagining something like this for their crystal tunnels but more structured like orzammar's diamond quarter.

Might this be a Fex?
I am not sure if it is someone in armor, or some sort of Golem.

They claimed that they haven't shown Fex, so by default there should be no pictures of them.

doubtful,  i think david gaider said in the Q.A that the fex won't be in DA2 but it is a race to be presented to us in future games

D'oh, I missed that.
So they are going to be included in future games?
I hope that means we will see more of Par Vollen and Qunari culture as well.

But lets get back on topic.

I f they are somehow connected to the crystal, would they be able to mold it?  I'm thinking that they can reshape the crystal to their will be using different resonance.  IF this is the case, then their structures might be much more organic in form.

maybe... imagine the crystal as the heart of the mountain and it's branching crystalline tunnels as the mountain's veins. this crystal could even be a type of lyrium but with different properties than the ones found on thedas.

@nightcobra,

acording to David Gaiders Q&A PAX videos, Fex rarely go away from Par Vollen.

So maybe they aren't golems, but could your theory make sense for something more humanoid?

Actually the fex are commonly mentioned on the british tv programme "father ted" by a mad looking prophet, weird but true.

i said they're an organic sentient species, but with a outer crystal shell or skin making them golem-like (not actually golems:whistle:)

and their society would be restricted to their environment due to their symbiotic nature with the core crystal.

i was thinking more like big chunks of crystal growing out of their bodies with little organic tissue showing,
think of it as a humanoid wearing a bulky suit of crystal that helps you to survive in that environment

it would be something like the image you just posted only that the layer of crystal wouldn't be that thin, remember shale's crystals? imagine how shale would look like if the crystal covered most of her body, that's the look i'm trying to convey.

Do we have any idea what the "Fex" look like? Probably not much detail in that department, yet.

I'm just really excited to find out that there's more than just the Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Qunari.

Although I suppose that a Fex could be just another subtype of human, like a Rivaini or Antivan...

Remember there's a whole 'nother continent somewhere, where humans and Qunari originally came from, and perhaps even more continents.

May I remind you that on Earth, there is only one species of sentient animals: Humans. ****** sapiens. On EVERY continent except Antarctica. Now, at certain times in our history, there have been other species in the ****** genus, but each has either interbred with sapiens enough to become indistinguishable from each other.

Just because there is another continent somewhere doesn't mean anything. D:

Except other races have already migrated to Thedas so the existance of other continents could reasonably suggest other races.

Hmm, I'm wondering what this new race might be as well.
