What's the best way for an adept to handle to rocket drones at the third installation on the rogue VI mission on the moon? I'm playing through ME1 and 2 for the third time, this time as an adept, and these things are REALLY hard to kill, since they seem immune to all biotics except stasis.  I have Wrex and Garrus with me, and the drones put them down almost immediately, even when Wrex has his biotic barrier up.  I did manage to take out the drones, but only by backing up into the previous room and shooting them from behind cover.  They wouldn't go past the corridor, so this method wasn't all that satisfying, since it seemed like I was taking advantage of a programming bug.  One shot from a rocket was enough to take me out, since as an adept I can only wear light armor (even with biotic barrier up).

I'm only playing on Veteran setting, so I'm surprised this particular battle is as challenging as it is.

TIA,

Ed

I'll actually back into that same corridor, but I don't back up all the way into the next room. Garrus, Kaidan, and Tali are your techs, so they're the best ones to use on that mission. Take control of squad power usage, though. Keep them shooting until the rocket drones show up, then that's a good time to throw a sabotage at them. I believe Warp will also have some effect on the drones, but not sure as my Adept basically threw grenades and kept shooting while the techs did the real work. Tali's AI Hack is also invaluable here.

Remember when friend of mine send Liara on that mission and got really pissed when he realized that all of her biotic powers were useless. lol

Anyway like Pacifen said, your best hope are tech characters like Kaidan, Garrus and Tali.

Thanks. I tried Garrus' tech powers (overload and sabotage), but they didn't seem all that effective. I can see where Tali's AI hack could be very useful. IIRC, I took Tali on my previous playthroughs of this mission, though it was considerably easier with an infiltrator (playthrough #1) and a soldier (playthrough #2).

Sabotage will get the rocket drones to stop firing for a bit, so it's super effective. Don't have much more advice than that, though. It's always the rocket drones that cause me so much trouble on that mission.

OK thanks. I probably just didn't notice the effects of sabotage, since things heat up pretty quickly once six or eight rocket drones come around the corner. I'll hold Garrus back and try to use him more effectively.

Cheers!

Have Garrus and Tali in your squad.

Equip Garrus with the best Level 7+ Assault rifle you can get and Tali with the best Level 7+ Shotgun (or Pistol) you can get because you can install 3 mods on Level 7+ weapons.

Equip with Armour Piercing/Tungsten Rounds or Incindiery/Inferno Rounds, Rail Extension/Scram Rail etc for extra damage.

Same with armour, go for Level VII or above armour so you can get 2 mods installed.

Equip Shield Battery/Modulator/Interface, Armor Plating/Ablative Coating/Energized Plating etc anything which lowers the amount of damage you take.

Shock Absorbers and Combat Exoskeleton are also very good since they reduce the force of the rockets (which are your biggest danger).

You might also want to turn squad power usage off, so that you decide when their powers will be used - This can make all the difference.

Thanks, but I only have L. 4-5 equipment at this point. Just finished Feros, which I did first on this playthrough. Not sure why I got the luna quest so early. Seems like it came later in the game last two times around. Anyways, I beat it by backing into the other room, so I'll probably just go with that savegame.

You get it as soon as you're back on the Normandy after reaching level 20. Most Adepts prefer to do it early anyway, because the Bastion specialization will allow them to do damage with Stasis.

For some reason for me it takes a while and you can easily die from a rocket to the face automatically, so I just stay in the room right before the drones are and just set up my teammates at the doorway. Then I move forward, shoot some shots, and fall back and hold out. If we get overwhelmed, I just close the door and hope they don't open it again (I didn't know they could do that...) then I just recharge health, maybe step out and save, and repeat. It takes a long time and it is very frustrating, but I hope that helps.

And I just use Garrus and Ashley personally just because I don't really use Tali at all...

Wait... did Pacifien cover that? Oh well!

You need to dodge the rockets, so don't take cover, and keep shooting. I back up into the first room. Adept is definately the weakest for that mission. I would actually argue for Ashely and Wrex in your squad. Immunity prevents the rockets from killing them.

Thanks for all the responses.

Bastion specialization? I don't think I've seen that yet.

Edited to add: OK, never mind.  I killed the last three rocket drones and got the specialization -- it's been long enough that I'd played that I forgot you got specialization after completing the mission.  I was tempted to take Nemesis, since I like Warp and Lift  a LOT, but going up against the rocket drones convinced me I need a little more defense, so Bastion it is.

Thanks,

Ed

Just two quick notes: Sabatage will stop the firing of enemies, and Overload will increase damage by 30%. So if you hit an enemy with both, they can't shoot and they take more damage. IF you are fighting synthetics then having AI hacking, also take one of them and now makes it a target for your enemies as well. Also Dampening stuns enemies, normal or synthetic so you can stop the shooting, increase the damage and make them stand still, if you hit them with the three main powers of an engineer.
