I was wondering what you are all planning to do with your characters on their runs through the game?

I'll tell you a few of mine and what I hope to be able to do.

First would be my male Human Warrior. I want him to be a good character that still is able to make the hard choices. He will be a "the ends justify the means" kind of character. I will have him romantically involved with Leliana since her seemingly black and white view of the world will often clash with the choices my PC makes.

Next I want to play as a female Dalish Rouge. I will make her good at hart but she hates humans. I will take every opportunity to help elves yet will ignore the please for help from humans even killing them as often as possible. I might have her romantically linked with Zevran but I doubt it.

Then I want to play a male Human mage. This guy is all bad. He will only want to stop the Blight as killing all life would put a damper on his evil plans. He might just be romantically involved with Morrigan as they mutually manipulate and use one another.

Then lastly I have planned out a female Dwarf Noble. I want her to be very prim and proper with a snobbish streak. She thinks she is better than most and will take on the role of a Gray Warden with great zeal. I plan to have her fall in love with Alistair despite her displeasure in doing so.

Nice ideas. I haven't really thought beyond my first character, which will be a human rogue.
This guy usually ignores the minor bickering of other party members and would only intervene if the topic is related to him. He values all life and wants to save as many people as possible, although he HATES traitors and deceivers, and won't hesitate to slit their throats. I'll probably have him go for Morrigan and try to soften her up and make her see the good in people. If that won't work then by the end of the game she'll probably be at the wrong end of his dagger.

I was thinking a human mage. Taken from a noble family by the Templars as a child, he resents them and the chantry deeply. He longs to find the wealth, status and power that should hav been his by birthright. He hates the Chantry, and their Templar dogs and goes out of his way to undermine them.

He has compassion for other though, especially for the city elves who he feels have been the primary victims of the chantry through the ages. Since he openly supports apostates I think he might be drawn to Morrigan, but he wouldnt go out of his way, there are more important things at hand. I think he might just wind up killing Leliana and Alistair, not trusting them, especially the latter. I think he'd mesh well with Zevran, Dog, and Oghren so that's probably going to be his primary group.

Although I haven't put that much thought to my various character's yet. I have nearly figured out the first character I will be playing.

Which will be a male dwarf noble warrior. Although he puts the needs off his own people first, he does have sympathy for the other races plights. And he will always do what he can to help as long as it does not harm his own kind. He is a fierce and brutal warrior, and will pick up the berserker specialization first chance he get, and he prefers big two hand weapons.

Still got a few more details to work out, but they should be as set as they can be by the time I first sit down to play the game.

Haven't thought much about first PC, but it will be a female elven rogue. Will be making choices from my point of view. Second run through will be a male human mage based on the Byronic hero. Now all I need is a stage to put them on.

I was thinking of a Dalish Elven Rogue, going straight to Ranger. Not because Ranger offers any benefits with ranged weapons, but because it is just fitting somehow. From Ranger, I'm not sure where I'll go, since all others seem to cater to urban, poofy or melee.

I was planning to play predominantly good, but "good" in the same sense fascists can be good. He would have had no love for the average human or human culture. Very, very elf-centric - putting elves first and foremost. This doesn't mean that he'd actively seek out and wanton kill humans or anything of the sort, nor would he steal or abuse humans just because they're humans. Dislikes city elves, but believes that they must be saved, not judged for their situation. Overall, a solemn, serious sort, but with a careless side he'd want to explore. He'd want nothing else than to live in peace with an elven family, but believes it necessary to sacrifice himself for the greater good so that his people may live on.

Due to issues in the portrayal of such a character in Dragon Age, I am unsure wheter or not to persue such a character, though.

My first character will be a Female City Elf Rogue (name pending, currently Meryn until I figure something better out). She's had a hard life in the alienage and with the prologue she is bound to become a jaded cynic. Her main priority is to look out for herself and those she cares about and she won't go out of her way to help someone in trouble unless it somehow benefits her. Somewhat of a pessimist at heart, she's serious, to the point and occasionally almost abusive in her straight forward attitude. Not above resorting to killing if she feels that is what it takes.

My second playthrough is scheduled to be with Rose, a human noble. A positive if mellow person, her parents would have preferred her to marry rich instead of taking up arms. She likes the life of adventure and takes the risk of being maimed, killed or worse with a shrug and a grin. She believes in doing what is right, and what is right by her is usually helping whoever needs help in the present, being honest, loyal and protecting those that can't protect themselves.

Personally, I'll be taking a Dwarf Noble Warrior also as my first choice.

1.) I figure Warrior will be the easiest class to start and fairly straight forward.

2.) Two-handed Dwarf Madness.

I'll have him on the path of righteousness looking out for this party mates. I'll probably play scenarios by the book and will have an outside view on the racial tensions between the Elves and Humans so that I can better immerse myself for when I start my elf mage. I figure if I played an Elf or Human first I would probably be bias based on whatever I see going on.. starting a dwarf.. I can keep an unbiased view as I feel the tension will be off my character.

Also, it'll give me a chance to see the other classes and play with them before making choices as my Magi that I have no idea about (IE: what spells to choose). I figure a Warrior will be pretty straight cut.. Two-handed skills and stamina.. and wreak havoc :P

Here's hoping it's as smooth as I hope it will be. I do plan on having a Human Archer as my third play through.. but I generally switch characters a lot so we may see them sooner rather than after a full play through.

I also plan to make my Magi more shady and not happy-go-lucky.

The character creator has me leaning towards playing Lyle, the dwarf noble warrior (my avatar as of this writing). The idea of playing a young dwarf, not yet used to the ways of the world, but wanting to do some good appeals to me. I've avoided too much info about the origin stories, though, so I'm not sure if that fits into the overall story arc well, but we'll see. I usually play my characters as they go and don't pre-plan these sorts of things. If it wasn't for the CC, I'd not have even put that much thought into it.

As a start I plan to use Corkus as a dual wielder with swords but from there, I have no idea. At least not yet.

For my first charactor I would go for a mage and attempt to become an arcane warrior. From there I'll see. For my 2nd charactor, I'll be a Human Noble Rogue, a duelist / healer "ie. herbalist", with a strong mercantile streak.

I'll post here what I posted in a simmiler thread on the dragon age website's forums.:

My first character is Faizel, an elf mage.

He was born to a
servant girl in some upper class human's service, his father one of the
other servants there. The human family were kind masters, and Faizel's
first few years were marked with being treated with love, so when he
was taken to Kinloch Hold when a templar recognized him as having magic
potential when he was a young boy, he did not have any deep seeded
hatred of humans.

Over the years he took well to his studies.
Faizel had many friends, being confident and compassionate to a certain
extent, helping other mages understand why they had to stay in the
tower, and in general being a good person. He was known for being a
firm supporter of the Templar and the chantry, knowing full well the
danger he was, he made sure the Templar knew he appreciated them being
there to stop him from hurting anyone should, Maker forbid, a demon
ever take over him. Those who did not like Faizel were those against
the system, cries for freedom or that the Templars were oppressive were
like nails on chalkboard. Faizel was notorious amongst those who
disliked the Templar for always keeping an eye on them, and reporting
them should they ever try to unlock any forbidden magic.

Having
read and heard of Loghain's wondrous adventures and how he played a
crucial (the most crucial, in his opinion) role in pushing out the
Orlesians,(though he is not racist against them, he has much respect
for what he has heard about their new Empress) Faizel has almost a hero
worship of him. He is a devout Andrastian and a firm believer in Order.
He does not personally like killing, so he tends to focus on healing
magic, though he is proficient in the spirit tree of magic just in case
there is no one to fight in his stead. More than likely he will fall
head over heels for Leliana, a devout Andrastian like himself and even
a Sister in the Chantry.

He takes both the hatred he gets from
being a mage and the being looked down upon for being an elf in stride.
He feels all mages deserve the fear and hatred they receive, they must
always be reminded of the terror that they could cause should they lose
control, and as for the racism for being an elf, Faizel feels it is the
Daleish fault for refusing to integrate with human society, making all
elves look like savage filth. He will merely node his head and take any
rascist remarks, never responding in anger, for that would further
solidify the division between human and elf.

I'm not sure where I'll take my characters yet. I am thinking about taking my human warrior down the path of the Chantry, but they seem like almost facists, or religious zealous, and I so I might go bersterk instead.

I normally stick to the 'good' side of the tracks, but we'll see how things go ingame. I would offer a deeper history of the character's origins, but from what I've heard, the human noble route is pretty firmly defined.

A female human warrior being a kinda "chaotic good" type.

She will train her skills mainly toward dual weapons wielding.

I don't know if I will use my first character to try to explore every bit of every quest, or keep some optional quests for replay value for my next characters.

If by solo play you mean without any party members, be warned, the developers have said you will die a lot, probably not have fun, and they do not suggest it at all.

I love being evil in these sorts of games, so I'm making a female human mage and being as chaotic as I can :)

I have always played human in previous bioware games. But I;m going for city elf for now because from what we know of the origin stories, this one interest me the most. But no detail plans until I know a bit more how the origins plays out.

I'll be starting with my 'namesake' character, Cuthlan. In every game I play, he's a paladin-esque fighter. He'll be a Human Warrior/Templar/Champion, played a bit more gritty than a D&D-style paladin, but with a similar good guy disposition.

My first character will be a male Dwarven Commoner Rogue/Bard. I'll roleplay him as a gentle, chaotic good soul always eager to help people. His chaotic nature, however, will make him suspicious towards all kinds of authority (especially dwarven), and won't obey orders that he deems immoral (when that's an option).

My second character will be the good-guy-who-turns-bad type. He'll probably be a Human Mage, since they tend to succumb to their power hunger quite often in fantasy-settings. At start he will be kind of lawful good, but will at some time "turn to the dark side" by choosing the Blood Mage specalization (I'll have to make up a reason for him to do that though; maybe temptation?). From there on, he'll most likely be lawful evil.

My third character will be a male City Elf Rogue/Assassin with a strong hatred towards humans, which will have a strong impact on how he speaks and acts towards them. This will be a very intersesting RP scenario, as most key-characters in the story seem to be humans.

I can't wait to bring these characters to life :D The only thing that bugs me is that the game doesn't keep track of alignment, but I guess you could still follow one. I mean you don't need to have the game telling you that you are of a specific alignment. You could just pick an alignment in your head and act by it while playing.
That's at least what I'll do :)

EDIT: Oh, and as for names I'll use the default ones.

My first character will be Terentius, whose photo you see on my avatar.I'll roleplay him as a cunning warrior and a natural leader who always tries to bring his companions together and disolve any misunderstanding between them...I want to depict him as neutral towards lawfull neutral alignement...so he will be a though mercenary selling his sword to the highest bidder while not lacking some sort of morals (so he won't help the darkspawn even they ofer him 100000000000 gold)...I want to depict him as a good leader (so I'll chose the champion specialization) who cares for his friends more than he cares about the world...so if the decision comes he'll probably chose to save a companion instead of saving a whole village...

My second character will be Thomas, a Human Mage who I want to start as a lawfull evil alignement but turn him in time to neutral or neutral good...so to show his redemption after doing many bad things...

Being born into a noble family is a privilege as much as it is a curse, seeing how other nobles treat their kinsmen as slaves make me furious. It is my will and duty to defend the people, to help whoever needs help and by the Maker I shall. My lands are not much, but it is mine and I will make of it what I can. The people working on my land is mostly born on my lands, but eventually when I come across people who asks for help I offer them a place to live (if they are homeless) and a job (if they are out of job). I rarely just give away money, since money is limited whilst a job and thereby a pay is lasting. Between listening to politics and tending my lands I tend to train in the arts of war with my brother and my dad and mentor.

My name is Berase and I am a Human Noble of birth, but an Honorable Warrior of heart!

Being born in the wild amongst kinsmen I have learnt to love the wilderness. I am honored to serve my people and by the powers given to me by the Maker I shall defend it against any power that tries to force themselves on us or the wilderness that surrounds me and my fellow kinsmen! I have seen what humans do to my kind and I pity them for their lack of honor but I do not hate them. I feel sorry for those that has fallen under the rule of the humans and I strongly hope that I will live to see the day when my people is reunited with their lost kinsmen. Until then I will keep up my training and keep the rest of us safe and free!

My name is Sinnerar and I am ranger of the wild and a proud member of the Daelish Elfs!

Son of a father of Noble heritage but of a mother who died giving birth, I was born in poverty, thrown away with the garbage in the name of honor!? I give nothing for honor, but don’t you dare pity me! I am the maker of my own luck, just waiting for my chance to rice. And when that day comes my suppressors will know!

My name is Errin, I live in the shadows deep beneath the earth. You may think I am a thief, but I am just taking what was denied to me when I was born.

My thoughts of the first few characters. I know they have a background story, I just like to kinda set my self up to fully understand how im gonna play, otherwise I usually tend to play good all the way..
