On a less serious note, Mo Hawke would make a good name too

Female: Lady (may be slightly racist, but I'll be damned if that name hasn't stuck with me)

Though I now see that I probably should have posted in the other thread covering this topic. Whoops.

Don't you mean sexist? I'll probably name mine Lady Hawke as well, its rather interesting to name someone 'Lady'.-Skorpious- wrote...

Although Einin Hawke might be nice...Einin is said as "a + neen" & means 'little bird'. Nice symmetry I guess...
(I didn't know that Etain "e + tane", meant jealousy, hm.)

There's no real consensus. By my translation, Étaín should be said "Ay-tah-een", so I guess just "ay-teen". Like "eighteen"? I'm trying to look up what the hell the name means, and people seem to be mixed between "jealousy", as you say, and "shining". My bet is jealousy.

Strange - the only person I know by that name puts the fada on the a - she spells it Etáin and pronounces it eh-TOYN. The Mythological Cycle seems to indicate your spelling is right, though.Saibh wrote...

If you want to go with "little bird," the correct modern Irish spell (don't know about Scots or any other Celtic languages) in Éainín (AYN-een - or, to ).
