The reason is this:
Windows 7 (and Vista) will not allow you to save anything into the program folder. (saves are kept in the Baldur's Gate folder, not in the My document folder). It has something to fo wit the safety and security only letting certian programs be allowed into the program folder.

Well I have my Baldur's Gate(s) installed in the Program Files directory and I've had no issues whatsoever.

I think it depends on if you set it to run the game as administrator in Vista. Can't say for 7 yet.

ALright, this thread has me convinced to nab the Baldur's Gate compilation for my pretty much useless laptop that I used to use for coursework in college (its one of those old 600 mhz dell's I nabbed offa ebay years ago just to have a computer but on the cheap). MUAHAHAHA. thank you all!
