What I hated in ME1 about Liara was that while just trying to be on friendly terms, you'd end up with her, unless you gave a hard "no" at the cabin scene at the end. So somehow, her romance seemed to "override" other romance options.

Oh my goodness, Liara was almost as big of a pain in the butt as Leliana. Both of them wouldn't take no for an answer right away, though once Liara accepted the no, she was good. Leliana acted like I broke up with her after the LM and at the coronation when I knew I had clearly taken the friend only diaglogue options. I had a few weird glitches (or so I've been told) with Zev where he acted the same way. But he did take no much more gracefully.

There are lots of other romance starter lines later on, and that first one is the least interesting of them, so you don't have to worry about skipping it. I like the one that occurs when you ask him why he didn't tell you about his birth, myself.
