All my Shepards look the same

I have a rather unusual problem I think. Whenever I create a new character I end up not liking him a very short time into the game although I was fine with it when I created him. So far I've stopped playing a few saves and made a new Shepard that looks exactly the same like my first one (who also doesn't even look like in ME1 anymore). Basically all my characters are "my main characters" (right now I have only 4 (Soldier, Infiltrator, Vanguard, Sentinel) because I deleted all the other - 2 renegades and 2 paragons and I somehow even regret that 2 of them are paragons and I don't have 4 identical renegades with their class being the only difference between them).

I recently started a female playthrough and after spending so much time with the face creation I ended up not liking her very fast. I started it again... same result. Female hair looks absolutely ridiculous and I'm back to yet another shepard who looks the same as my others. Anyone else having this problem that you stick with one face and never really like whatever else you create? I'll be browsing the face database a bit more and maybe I find a few female shepards I like (unfortunately hair looks bad on all of them no matter what) and maybe I can stick with it until the end of the game then.

Oh yes... I forgot... they also all have the same name :D

I have a similar situation but I don't mind. All of my Shep's look very similar. I have tried to make one that is completely different, but I can't seem to bring myself to push the confirm button. :)

I have some data that says why this plagues FemShep faces, I haven't taken a good look at the Male face codes yet. Maybe you just have a preference.

This is a huge problem for femsheps. I tried to model my canon Shepard after me and the only thing we share in common are our skin, eye, and hair colors. Everytime I see a picture of someone else's they look just like mine!

It may just be because there are less options to use for female Shepards that don't make them look like some kind of horrible abomination.

Personally feel the same when creating a new character, they don't vary much.

Part of the problem for me is that the character is voiced. There's a default look for that voice (and a good voice we get in Jennifer Hale too), but that's what gets me: I associate that (default) face with that voice (in that game), and changing it just looks odd.

I have managed to create a new male Shepard who doesn't use the default look, but again...it just seems strange when it's not that face with that voice.

Due to this rather odd mentality I experience it's partly why I'm a little hesitant about Dragon Age 2 with a fully voiced main character in Hawke. I'd probably end up just tinkering a little, but no real new created character. I don't have a problem creating different characters in Dragon Age because there is no voice for the Warden. However, Christmas Ape has hit upon something about having a preference...:)

I have to admit, I don't quite get this 'looking the same' business. I've managed to create some decent Sheps with very different looks, both male and female.

One thing that has helped in differentiating them is ensuring they make very different choices: Hales Paragon and Renegade performances are two very different beasts, as are Meers.

All my femsheps look similar. And it bothers me because I don't try to do it. ):

It's the fairly limited face creator.

I have that problem but in Dragon Age, all my male human characters end up with the same basic face structure so they just look like my first character but in various stages of life. There is old Cousland, Young Cousland, Mid-life Crisis beardo Cousland... I actually punched myself fight club style on the 4th time I did it. Then I rolled up an Elf.

My 4 male Shepards wear recon hoods (solider, cqc shotgun infiltrator) and kestrel helmets (vanguard, assault sentinel) so their faces are covered and still they look exactly the same. I don't even try to rebuild them, I just enter the code right away so they look identical.

Created a new female shepard now that I'm planning to equip with the headshot visor thingy... so I hope I don't start disliking her looks again after some missions like I did with the previous 2 tries that ended up being deleted (and replaced by males that look the same again).

I'm kinda the same way, but I always go with default male. (Except for my 1 female Shepard) Whenever I try to make a custom male Shepard I always go *ugh* when I hear them talk, it just never looks right with the voice imo.. :pinched:

It may take a little practice but you can definitely overcome this. Use a different preset face to start off with or use a different facial structure. It's gonna take some time to do unless you know exactly what you want. An original looking character is not something you can whip up in 5 minutes and expect it to look good.

Yes the ME character creator is limited, but it can do way more than I've see done on these websites.

Yep.  I wouldn't mind its lack of appearance options if it:

1) allowed for more varied views,
2) didn't require us to sit through a long series of cutscenes,
3) ditched the annoying glowing grid that flashes over periodically, and
4) showcased our character speaking or making different facial expressions.

My custom male Shepards always get these bunched up cheekbones that puff up around their eyes.  I'd be more tempted to experiment with it and find a solution if the character creator were easily accessible.

My FemShep faces actually vary but do have some similar facial features. It's because of how limited the facial creation program actually is. But at least I can make her look as smexy as possible!

It's probably a wrong guess, but I think having voiced protagonist may have something to do with the limited options.

When I made a new male-Shep face, he did look eerily similar to my previous one. I guess that means a fairly narrow section of facial structure choices look 'right' to me.

Just tweaked the face code a bit, but they're pretty much the same, other than the hair, the eye and skin color, and I used texmod makeup for Jayna. I did it on purpose, but there are plenty of attractive Shepards that don't look like mine.

Personally I go with the old comic book theory. You have just one big defining characteristic when you make them. Superman has the S. Batman has the ears, Wonder Womans got the legs. So I just make sure that each Shepard has a distinctive feature that isn't shared by my other Shepards. Like my Renagon is bald with the awesome handlebar mustache. My Summer Glau is pale with the kind of wavy hair. IDK. they do look some what similar but they are discernible.
