Did that blood mage lady from the tower skip out on me?

I was hoping that the blood mage in the Mage's Tower (the one that begs for you not to kill her) would be a companion.  I allowed Jowan to do the blood magic ritual to save Connor, and from there I went to the tower.  When I met the blood mage in the tower, I had different conversation options with her.  I had the option of recommending that she come with me to fight darkspawn.  She agreed to commit herself to my cause, and I told her to wait downstairs with the apprentices and to not tell anyone who she is.  Unfortunately, after I defeated Uldred, she was nowhere to be found.  I went back to camp hoping to find her there, but she wasn't there either.  Will she show up later in the game?

She's not a Companion option.

AnniLau, where does she go? Was she lying when she said that she'd join me?

She's never mentioned again that I've seen, so I don't know. If she couldn't escape, the Templars probably did something unpleasant to her.

The best way for her to survive would be with the Grey Wardens. I've always wondered if the joining ritual involves blood magic, and if a blood mage was necessary to prepare it. Trying to run away on her own would have been pretty risky. It just seems odd that the programmers would give the PC the option to invite her into the party but then have no mention of her afterwards.

Hmm... you know, I never saw that option before. I checked in the toolset, and you can only get the "Fight the darkspawn. Redeem yourself." option if you're a blood mage, assassin or reaver. And there is indeed a plot flag at the end of the dialogue for her to go to your camp.

Cut content, maybe? They might have planned for you to have been able to recruit her early on, then cut it and forgot about that dialogue path. There's certainly no other dialogue for her that I can find.

I was a reaver.  My last words to here were something like "You have skills.  I have use for them."  As she left, she said that she would commit herself to my cause.  One of the things that you could say to her was something like "You're a Maleficar, yes.  That means you can kill darkspawn quicker."  What plot flag were you refering to?  Is this just another one of the game's bugs?

No, not a bug. The plot flag is that the mage would go to your camp, but there isn't any further mention of her anywhere that I can see in the toolset. Which means that whatever her role was intended to be early in the game was probably scrapped, and they just forgot/it was too late to take out the line where you can recruit her or something.

I suppose it's possible that she was supposed to go to your camp if you chose to kill Wynne.

Could someone from Bioware please comment on this? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

Maybe someone could mod her back in? That would be hella awesome!

The option for her to go to your camp is there whether Wynne is alive or not, it's only the lines that are changed. The normal line is "Join the apprentices downstairs. Do not say who you are", and the one that's only available if you killed Wynne is "Hide for now, and go to my camp when it's safe". Either way, they both get the same ending. (Mage goes to camp).

I guess if it bothers you, you could RP it that she got caught by the templars, or decided to use her chance at redemption for freedom instead. She is described as 'renegade' in the toolset.

Maybe she was supposed to join if you kick Morrigan out?

If it was possible to get her in game though, no one would've gotten to Achievements/Trophies for all characters even after getting Loghain.

Has anyone ever managed to get her into the party?  That's such a major bummer.  Is this another programming error?

It's highly likely that she was originally intended to be another companion, but Bioware ran out of time, or just didn't feel like putting her in.

The chances of this just being a programming error are extremely rare.

As I stated above, the only way to get her in the party, would likely be a mod.

She would have been better than Wynne (or could have been an alternate to Wynne). This is an error on BioWare's part. It's like the time in the Dalish Elf Origin that Tamlen refers to Varathorn (just to name one example). Was Dragon Age rushed through production?

Maybe, but I think they just changed their minds about some things...like, you were originally supposed to be able to recruit Jowan too.

Maybe. They should have corrected the conversation then, or put in some mention as to why she didn't join the party after all (ie, she ran off, got killed on her way downstairs, etc.). I guess my question was answered. Thanx everyone. :)

Given that Dragon Age has, like, seven novels worth of text written for it, all of which is liable to be rewritten at various points, an insignificant, minor thing such as this is pretty much negligible, especially when it can be explained away in game as it is. (Just another Warden supporter out in Ferelden, or her being one of those mages you get for the final battle because she did just what you said.)

believe it or not jowan was origanally meant to be a companion, you were meant to conscript him to make him join you, i wish that bioware woudl rectify this error to add someone who could be very useful in the game

I hardly call it an error, it's a design decision. To be honest there are a lot of things that just didn't make the cut for the final story.

To be honest, Jowan might have been the idea that replaced this lady. An idea for a repentent bloodmage from early on, then a shift of focus to a known character with a larger role (Jowan), before it came to be as it is now and was dropped.

It has two. Given that it has three warriors (Alistair and Loghain being equivalent in party selection), two rogues, a dog, and shale, it's par for course.

Someone should make a mod that has that her join your party if she agrees to sacrifice Wynne to prove her worth. lmao

And yes, I absolutely hate Wynne. >=)

You hate Wynne? I doubt that this blood mage gal would have wanted to kill Wynne. She was good at heart, starting off as a freedom fighter but being deceived by Uldred (who was really just creating a new system of slavery and persecution). My thoughts on choosing between the two are like this: If you were to choose the blood mage, Wynne would tell you that she won't need to come with you, since you'll already have a Circle mage in your party. Wynne may also express discomfort over traveling with a blood mage. BioWare really should have corrected this. It's one of many holes in the story.
