@B3ta: You might be better off solo.

There are much more enemies when you play co-op.

@Rubbish: Hey, you remembered how to speak English!

Cool.

Yeah, I got my copy Wednesday, so pretty much everyone else is further ahead of myself. Doesn't much matter, I like playing the tougher difficulties solo. I don't know what it is, but when I play co-op on any game the story seems to go in one ear and out the other. I wish there were carbines laying around. It would sure make my playthrough far easier.

The sheilds they have on are rediculous.

I spammed grenades at the bastards.

Do you have scoring on?

I thought Legendary on this game was easier. Halo 2 was the hardest on Legendary, the game delivers so much, though this might not be the last halo game because even though Bungie isnt working on halo anymore Microsoft still owns the rights to it and they say that they have big plans for it in the future.

I don't believe that was my comment. I think I instead pointed out that I found the story to be bare-bones and the gameplay not too terribly original.

Hey Druss, any idea what rank you have to be to unlock the Mk.VI helmet? I can't even preview it yet and it's not on the wiki.

No idea mate, gonna start my Legendary play through later so will have a look then.

I found Heroic to be as difficult on Reach as Legendary was on the others. Maybe I've lost my touch.

As much as I liked the ending I would have done it slightly differently.

Yeah Heroic was pretty difficult, but have you played Halo 2 on Legendary?, it was impossible, tiny sheilds but as the guy said in the armory "They recharge a lot faster".

Considering how FPSs have changed, the gameplay is f**king oringinal gold now. Most other FPSs have joined on the generic aim-down-sights fully customizable class unbalanced mutliplayer bandwagon.
Why is it I kept hearing everyone liked Halo, then I got it and suddenly everyone hates it? It's weird.

And I lol'd hard and people saying it has a non-exsistant plot. Just because you think that you should stop for a chat in the middle of a boss fight *cough*masseffect1*cough* doesn't mean that there's no plot. It's just because you're sort of thrown into Halo rather than introduced to it (like you would be in bioware games) it gives off that illusion.
Mind you, Halo 3 did make no sense what so ever if you hadn't played any others. It was quite funny really.

Anyway...

Halo: Reach was an interesting game. It was both stand alone, but still contributed to the series as a whole. Great gameplay and a colourful cast of characters. I kinda like how Jorge broke the "heavy weapons guy" stereotype. Rather than being a blood-thirsty, ruthless texan with no time to bleed; he showed as being compassionate, and generally a nice guy.

Not sure about the rank it seems to be Lt. Colonel and you need atleast 300,000 cR to purchase it. I can't see it on mine yet either I just found it on the wiki...

http://halo.wikia.co...or_Permutations

Halo 2 is the only one I didn't finish on Legendary it was way too much of a slog. I got as far as the battle with the Prophet and his infinate spawning Elites then I just gave up. Did it on Heroic that wasn't too bad. Legendary was more hassle than it was worth it wasn't even fun.

One thing I really appreciate about Reach and ODST is the lack of the Flood.

I'm not asking for a mid-fight conversation or a bioware style epic, but I think Half-Life is a good example of it. It's story weaves with the plot and the gameplay. In fact, Half-Life 2 is simply one of the best games ever, though it too suffered from the mindless shooter at points.

My dislike of Halo stems more from the feeling of "Why am I doing this again?" I had throughout most of the game. I was very impressed by the novels and how well-written they were and how they gave a real feeling of desperation and war fatigue and made you count every loss bitterly. But then Halo didn't too well of a job at making me feel like the war was a war.

Halo 2 did a better job of it, but when you end a game that way you're just asking me not to buy the sequel. I'm a bit confused as to why the games are considered the end-all, be-all of FPS games, seeing as the gameplay isn't at all different from other shooters, Half-Life included.

I will say this, though; the vehicle driving is the best in any action game ever.

In the end, my feelings regarding the game were "meh". Its a franchise, with a large universe that has proven itself to be capable of more. It just doesn't. It has fun multiplayer, and the end.

Halo: Reach earned 200 million in a single day. They must be doing something right. FPS are meant to be pure action games. Don't like it, don't play. Simple huh?

Oh and Half - Life is just another shooter.  Don't BS us with your obvious bias.

Any other decent first-person shooter on the Xbox360? It would never have had the same success on the PC. And mind you, before you jump and start explaining about piracy being the blame, just look at every single torrent or P2P server that has Halo:Reach for free. X360 not being pirated it's ridiculous, it's a fact...

Halo:CE was fun and while the shooter sections themselves were average even at the time, the vehicles, the setting and the enemies were original. Halo 2 felt tired, honestly, graphically and gameplay. Halo 3 I've never played, don't own a 360 and don't intend to.

Reach seem great, at least story-wise, as it leaves behind the tired super-hero Master Chief stuff, and I wish it would come to the PC. Looks good and cinematic, too. Plus the soundtrack is amazing, I love Halo's OSTs. Great music should be treated as such, regardless of genre or platform.

And Half-Life being "just another shooter"? Is that an objective opinion or fanboism? The FPS genre would not be the same without the original HF - it is the game that started the trend of making FPS games with movie-like quality, everything about it was top-notch. I don't like HF2 at all, but the original was truly fantastic.

By the way, is it true you have to play multiplayer to unlock various features in Halo:Reach? Armor customization, weapons etc.?

Nothing that i can think of.

You earn "credits" by playing Campaign, Firefight, or Matchmaking, Earn enough Credits and you will advance in rank. The more you advance in rank the more stuff you unlock. You buy stuff with Credits.

There is a small amount of items you need specific achievements to unlock (for example, the helmet i am wearing you need to complete the game on Legendary to use) but i cant think of any that are tied to multiplayer.

I don't know, perhaps it's my lack of motivation with Reach, but Halo 2 was definately easier for me. There were parts that I had to redo over several times, but at least Chief's shields were better than the health of a grunt. I like the fact they made their enemy AI intelligent this go, but why is my team AI completely unaware of anything. The basic marines in 2 could kick my Spartan AI arses.

EDIT: Played a couple hours tonight and got to Tip of the Spear. How far am I? I just want to be done with it and let it collect dust.

Thanks, and I think I'll enjoy the campaign more when I play it on normal co-op. Definately beats the boring COD Veteran plays, ecspecialy with the new enemy AI, I just wish my shields could withstand more than a bullet X{

Just finished my solo Legendary run. That was awesome.
I love how enemy A.I. scales upward with level, while ally A.I. gradually retards. The ally A.I. was hilarious. I would constantly see them in vehicles, doing donuts in the middle of the road, unable to determine where to go. And almost every mission I had to do alone because the other Noble members would get stuck on a wall and not be able to follow me. I'm pretty sure the line from Carter about how "that lone wolf stuff won't fly here" was the funniest joke in the entire game.

Why do so many people try to say that the Halo series has no story? All the lore surrounding the Covenant, the Flood, the Forerunners and humanity? The awesome characters? Nathan Fillion? Halo's story is the reason I keep coming back to the games. It's probably my favourite in any shooter so far.

Not sure if the AI sounds that great, actually. Increasing enemy AI skill according to difficulty setting sounds great, but I hate ally AI being so stupid that I have to do everything. Especially when it contradicts the story...

As for the story - it's not bad, it's rehashed. So many games use the formula Halo does (ancient race - great threat - blind young enemies fighting a war - player super-hero) that it becomes almost tedious, no matter how quality the execution. Reach is a military story, a loosing war and doomed, human characters. Something very rare in gaming, and a story that has an impact on the player. If I have to pick a random Halo title, that would be it. Or ODST, though I've heard a lot of contradictory things about it.

AntiChri5, thanks for the clarification.

You sicken me :P.

I don't mind the Flood themselves they make a change to the pace of the game. Its just they tend to bring with them a long b*tch of a level thats arguably the worst level in the game. See the Cortana level in Halo 3 for an example.

The story is bare-bones. You simply have to read tie-in material for there to be any. Halo opens up with you finding Halo, fighting Covenant, and then fighting Flood with very little context. Unless you read The Fall of Reach there is little explanation as to why there is a war, who the Master Chief is, what is going on, etc.

The later games would introduce more story to their settings, but the Forerunner, Flood stuff was confusing if you didn't have the prior context that appears in the first three Halo novels concerning the Covenant's motivations and the presence of certain Forerunner artifacts on human planets.

Its amazing, i just hit captain online, and i've done the campagin on legendary by myself, the only thing that i have a problem with is that is big team battle it tends to be quite laggy, but apart from that its amazing.
