I'd have to say Samara. She's useful in battle with assault rifle and biotic abilities. She's had a lot of life experience and seems very wise. I respect her ability to do what she has to no matter how hard it is.

I love Mordin, he's like the crazy funny friend that you keep safe from the bar fights you and your wingman get into. Because if the funny guy gets hurt than no one is laughing.

I almost always have Garrus with me, unless for some reason the game makes me choose weirdly. In ME I carted Kaiden around with me all over the place, and in ME2 Jack's taken his position. I'd take Tali around with me, but my main's an Engie, so it's more useful to have a biotic than another engineer.

On my soldier, Miranda was the constant companion (not LI though).  She was a good complement with her warp and her party buffs, and I liked her well enough.  Now for Lair of the Shadow Broker, I did break out the Soldier with Liara and Tali for nostalgia's sake--as they were my soldier's constant companions in ME1.

On my infiltrator, it was Miranda again.  Largely because she was the infiltrator's LI.

My current playthrough is adept (femShep).  The "constant companion" is Garrus mostly.  Though sometimes I sub in Kasumi (has Overload as well) for him since I never got to play her much.

Mass Effect 1: Wrex and Liara for every mission.

Mass Effect 2: Garrus and Thane (If I can only take one I take whicher is most useful for that specific mission)

ME1: Liara

ME2: Miranda, but not because I like her; her abilities make her one of the best companions on higher difficulty levels.

My vanguard rolls Garrus/Ash about 70% of the time in ME1, then Garrus about 90% of the time in ME2 with about 50% Kasumi. He's her best friend, her XO, the one guy on the SR-2 she trusts without reservation, and his skills compliment hers fabulously. My sentinel is more flexible, but as of ME2 she tends to take Grunt with her everywhere for the tanking and inferno ammo (she's a caster sentinel), and because she's trying to be less renegade these days and "check out what Grunt says, do the opposite" has been a helpful guideline for her.

ME1: Kaidan and Garrus, sometimes Wrex.

ME2: Thane and Garrus were my dream team, along with some Zaeed.

Zaeed grew on me after my first play-through, so I tend to keep him with me. I really like his combustion grenade for sewing chaos in groups.

I tend to switch Zaeed for Legion though once i get him.  Hes good in a fight and it always makes me smile when he sais "overclocking kinetic barriers".

Garrus. If I'm Jack Bauer, he's Tony Almedia.

ME1: Wrex. Changed it up a lot with the second squaddie, but Wrex was always with me.

ME2: Garrus and Thane, my sniper buddies. I'm almost happy Legion wasn't introduced earlier--if he was, my wingmaliens would have competition.

Game-wise... Miranda because I need that Health buff to make Insanity more managable.

Though for bro power it would have to be Garrus because he's almost as awesome as me. Sheperd.

In ME1 my wingman / woman was Garrus and Ashley more often than not.

In ME2 I had a few A-teams.

Thane / Grunt with my engineer.

Thane / Garrus, Thane / Miranda with my infiltrator.

Thane / Samara with my adept.

Thane / Jack with my sentinel.

Hmm, I'm seeing a pattern here.

I do almost the entire game with Jack and Grunt; they compliment my playstyle, they are great at midrage damage and crowd control, and they're just cute as buttons and always fun company :)

In all my ME1 playthroughs, I usually used Ashley and/or Kaidan, paired with each other or Garrus.

In ME2, Mordin's skills are awesome in combat, as is Garrus. I find Kasumi and Legion useful as well, but Mordin's my number 1 man in ME2.
