I am trying to make a ship boardable.  I am using the ship placeable from SOZ, so it doesn't rock or anything.  I have been trying for quite some time to get a walkmesh helper to connect the dock to the ship with very limited success.  I have been able to somewhat merge the walkmesh with the dock, but I cannot get a clean square gangway.

Here are some screenshots.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I switched walkmesh helpers to the ramp and the ramp works much better. I have no problem lining the walkmesh up on the dock, but the ship. (large walkable, from SOZ) seems to have a "no walk zone" around it that I cant override with the walkmesh helper. I tried making the ship an environmental object, but that didn't seem to help.

Has anyone else tried this with the large walkable ship?

For some reason, making the ship an enviornmental object did not seem to work, but when I make it walkable, the ships walkmesh goes away (as it should have done when I made it environmental) and now I think I will be able to replace the original ship walkmesh with helpers.

This one of those issues that few seem to have been able to overcome. I have no suggestions other than to keep at it. Also, there is yet another hak you might be interested in:

Heeds Boardable Ships. I don't have a link handy and I don't have a lot of time to post this, Peg Leg Pete just slipped out to "walk the lizard" and I don't know how long he'll be.

Sadly, I created this whole great ship with all sorts of things on it and released in my first module.  Heed's has all the ship models except this one because the one I used is from SOZ and Heed's does not appear to be updated that far.  Thanks for the help and encouragement, though.

So I made the ship walkable and replaced the main deck with a walkmesh helper and merged that with a walkmesh helper ramp which connects to the dock and it baked perfectly. Now I can use helpers for the stairs and other decks and then cut the non-walk areas with walkmesh cutters.

While adding walkmesh helpers to the ship, I have noticed that it seems to be easier to splice a ramp to a flat helper than to do two ramps or two flat helpers.

And don't forget, the walkmesh helpers are counted as placeable objects, so scaling them to fit your area as much as possible is the best way to use them (that way you use fewer overall) in an area.

Just in case anyone else actually used or uses them like I first did, completely forgetting about the possibility of scaling them. Doh!

Well I am finished. I redid the walkmesh on the entire ship from SOZ. So it is possible. There are a few spots that look incomplete in the toolset, but when load it up and walk around, there are no noticeable problems.

I have no idea how long it took to do this. At least 6 hours. Probably more. Lots of tweaking and nudging of walkmesh placeables. My god. I almost went blind looking at walkmesh and C2 frames!

A very important reminder indeed!  Another interesting thing I noticed is that sometimes, you can change the walkmesh by changing the thickness of the flat walkmesh placeable.  I think there was one instance where I modified the thickness (changed from 1 to 100 or something like that) and it helped a little.  Of course sometimes this made things worse too..
