I've already beaten DA:O on Normal despite this issue but now I'm playing my second playthrough so I might get the last DLC. But I'm facing this again, absurd difficult issues. And I've asked around, I've searched for similar problems, solutions, and I'm not finding anything...
On normal, the game was playable (though I hate the AI) and had a few difficulty spikes. Now I'm playing on hard and mowed through the beginning up to Lothering without a single party member falling, WTF!? Now I've started my game again and bandits do me in, no more than 6 hits to kill party members. So I had a hard time on Normal, ok time on Easy, and Hard was a friggin' breeze till I started again.
I've searched around but all I seem to find are people who find it too easy, people who find it way to hard (but for completely different reasons), and power gamers who are no doubt accustomed to Baldur's Gate. And for those people: yes, I use tactics. yes, I do micromanaging. yes, I am an RPG player and no noob to these sorts of games. And I love Dragon Age. But between this and the AI, I don't know how I'll put up until Dragon Age 2.
Anyone have a solution or, at the very least, and answer.

Lothering is definitely tougher than Ostagar. Charging the bandits on nightmare does not end well. Give your meleers bows so everyone can do ranged attacks while the bandits charge you. Use dog instead of Leliana but don't let dog charge in ahead of the rest of the party. Once melee starts have dog dread howl then, when that wears off, have Morrigan run in and mind blast. Horror incapacitates, too. Concentrate on one enemy at a time but don't have more than two meleers on the same enemy as they will get in each other's way.

Ok, well thanks. That at least explains the bandits.
But in Ostagar, I've beaten the whole tower with relative ease on Hard the first time, and redid it the same way the second time with great difficulty. I still beat it but it was considerably harder.
My real question is, do people know if there is an issue with the difficulties? Because it seems like when I start a game on Hard, its Normal difficulty until I quit and come back again, it suddenly updates to Hard. This is what I'm experiencing now anyway. My first playthrough on Normal difficulty was rather different.
