Well, first off, I was referring to the tattoo having color lol. Reading my post back to myself, I can see how you would have thought that, though. But yes, going down the spine is very painful from what I've heard (as opposed to the almost painlessness of places like the bicep). I would seriously suggest you do it in a few seperate sittings rather than one, though, and as you said, you should step up to it instead of jumping right in. Get a smaller one at first, to test the waters, but I guarantee you'll be back for more. Getting tattoos is highly addictive :)

As an example of the tattoo with color causing scars, when I got my Zelda tat (which is the only one I have with color), I had it done all in one sitting (mistake) and almost had scar tissue under it. I'm not sure what causes this, but I've seen several that ended up that way.

Lol, sorry about the misinterpretation. But no, I don't plan on getting any tatts with color, just the regular black & white will do for me. The only things that will have different color, once done with the tatts, will be my eyes an my hair (plus a different hair style). I am also thinking about getting piercings, but a bit hesitant about it, an not the regular ones (like ear, lip, or tongue piercing) but ones that are embedded (like bolts sticking out of the head).
Any thoughts on that?

Going back to the tats w/ color again for a sec, literally the only reason my Zelda tat has color is because when I was first resizing and adjusting it in photoshop, I accidentally hit the gradient tool and it left a nice red/black mix. Both myself and the artist thought it looked a lot better, so we went with it..

On the topic of piercings, I once had a bolt with a spike in my lower lip, but never embedded or implanted one. Those are a bit out of my price range, and really wouldn't go well on me (especially the bolts in the head, as cool as that would be lol). Although, a friend of mine got some small magnetic rods (8 of them or so all about an inch long, 1/8 inch wide) in his forearms and hands. I thought it was kind of dumb when I first heard about it, because its not something you can see. However, he didn't do it for asthetics. With those implanted, he can walk in a room and immediately 'sense' every metal object in the room, which is freakin' awesome, imo lol.

Also, I doubt he ever loses his keys LOL..

Don't really know much about photoshopping honestly, but if you still have the tatt, should take a pic an post it - doubt ya want another misinterpretation lol.
But personally about the piercings I am thinking about, honestly dunno what they are referred to as, I was thinking bolts were the best way of describing them lol. Basically like horns, but undecided if I want them sticking out or if they should be under the skin, is what I was aiming for in my description of it.
But about your friend, you make it sound as if he has some sort of super power lol, like Magneto - "You homosapiens and your guns!" lmao.

I've got pics of all my tats posted on the first page of this thread. On the piercing side of things, I kinda figured that's what you meant. I've seen pics of guys with the spikes on their head and just some ball bearings under the skin, making horn-like bumps and both look awesome.

And yea, that's about the feeling I had when my friend described it to me. Thought he was full of it until he went around the room and all but named what was in drawers, in my own pockets and such just from walking by lol. Was wickedly awesome! If I weren't such a computer nerd and constantly working on them, being near hard drives and stuff, I would so get that done. There's also the money issue, though >.<

Tattoos that I have: Full sleeve on right arm of Zou Chu battling one of the three calamities. Around the wrist is a quote from "The House of Sand and Foam" by Kahlil Gibran and written in arabic. My back piece is a Russian eagle. I have some writing just beneath the eagles claws and that's none of your business. There's tribal that goes up the back of my neck almost to the base of my skull. My left arm is a phoenix that goes from wrist to shoulder, passing thru a 3 headed dragon arm band. Collar bone says "Per Ardua Ad Astra" and "Hodie Non Cras". The two phrases are divided by a small set of scales. Kanu Unchou is on the right side of my ribcage. The lower part of my abdomen is tattooed some writing that is also nobody's business. I have a moustache on the inside of my left index finger.

Both ears are pierced.

I once pierced my foot with a gardening implement.  I really don't recommend it, though most of the pain was the subsequent anti-tetanus injection in my bum.  Ouch.

I've always been too scared to self pierce since a friend of mine had a very nasty accident doing that and ended up in hospital. And injections in the back side are really the worst ones i had that while on holiday. I got sick and had to have antibiotics inhjected was not pleasent.

I may have given the wrong impression if there was any suggestion that the "piercing" was at all intentional: it was pure clumsiness and ended up with all sorts of mud and other nastiness inside it!  Though it was kind of cool in a gruesome sort of way being able to see daylight through it.

In terms of what you're talking about I have heard enough stories of that sort of thing usually involving sewing needles, candles and alcohol which usually end up involving scabs, pus and infections.  Which may well be the intent for all I know, there's no figuring some people out...

I actually cringed when i read about the seeing daylight part. I'm terrible at dealing with things like that it makes she shudder at the thought of it.

Was it like Tarantino's hand in From Dusk Til' Dawn?

My mate tried to give himself a tatoo by scarring LFC into his arm I think he used a knife but I cant quite remember. It ended badly anyway. Do scars count? I'm covered in them.

@Druss: Scars are much easier to get, but sure, we can count them, too lol.. I've got so many that I've probably forgotten about most of them. Way too many bad decisions as a teenager lol.

I currently wear no ink. I haven't found a design I like enough to want to have permanently scribed into my skin. I'm not a good enough artist to design something on my own either (I admit it, I have a hard time drawing convincing stick figures).

One thing I've thought about, and this is the closest I've ever come to deciding on a design, is the Torment symbol from Planescape: Torment.

For those of you with poor memories, or poor Google-fu:

I think about change a lot. The things I've experience that have shaped and changed me, and what is yet to come. I think about what kind of changes I could make to improve my lot in life and achieve true happiness.*

*I'm not clinically depressed. My life is pretty darn good right now. Nothing's perfect, and I'm always trying to improve on this. This post sounds more moody and brooding than I typically get in real life.

A dude on the old interplay forums got that very tattoo.  It looked damn good.  Whoever did the work for him did a very nice job.  I have no tattoos, I do wood carvings instead.  :P

I'm getting a bar code tattooed on my neck. Social commentary. Also I want to see if I'm worth anything.

One of my "good ideas at the time" was a 1/2" stretch, but I later discovered that just because it stretches that much, it doesn't necessarily follow that it'll shrink by the same amount.  Oh well.

Oops. o_o
I heard if you don't go above10mm then the hole basically shrinks back to normal size. I'm only 8mm at the moment and probably won't go any higher. Too much effort to be honest. Haha.

I'd read 8mm was the "point of no return", so it's probably an idea to stay there; the stupid thing was I'd read about it beforehand and then chose to ignore the advice. So it's kind of stuck at 4-5mm now, though not always obviously so.

Oh. Well I think I'll stick where I am. I don't want droopy ears when I'm an Old Man.. >_<
Some people stretch them ridiculously big but I just don't see the point in giving your ears 'Bum Holes'. Unless you're going to keep them in for life which I imagine very few people actually do. I want to be a respected Elder. Not a Freak Show. =p

According to the chart Pacifien posted some time ago, I should get a tattoo.
