I can't draw out her henchmen by retreating cos the doors locked

and she's got lots of hit points , keeps on disappearing, has loads of henchmen then more assasins appear

and I can't find any health potions anywhere - does seem to be any decent supplies in Ozzammar and none at party camp either

Would help a bit to know which class you are playing.

If you are really in need of healing, you can make lesser potions very easily:

- The Circle of Magi has an infinite supply of Lyrium Dust.

- Varathorn at the elven camp has an infinite supply of Elfroot.

- Bodahn has an infinite supply of flasks.

You can therefore make a LOT of Lesser Healing Potions or Lesser Lyrium Potions.

I recommend making 99 Lesser Lyrium Potions and then bringing Wynne or any mage with Heal, Regeneration and Group Heal.

The elves have the elfroot, wynne and/or morrigan - or anyone else you gave herbalism to - can make health pots.

For suggestions, yea, knowing what class you're playing would be a big help to us.

But generally - avoid the back of the room (furthest from where you come in) as long as possible, because of the traps. There are dwarves with crossbows there, but some ranged attacks or magic attacks can deal with them. Crushing prison or paralysis can neutralize them for a while.

For the rest - a crowd control spell like sleep (followed by horror or waking nightmare, it's very good) can handle most of them, letting you deal with them in passing as you go after Jarvia.

to be more specific, we'd need to know your class and party.

Scattershot will reveal any Stealthed foes within the AoE. Firebal, Glyphs, and other smaller AoE spells are good to pepper that small area she likes to use.

Generally, I hold the party to fight where we enter, allowing limited range of travel anywhere near the traps. I also have at least one in the party with Survival; nice to see thru Stealth and gain intel.

Wow, you don't have a better sword by now?

Morri's got expert herbalism . . . .make better health pots. And with all those people who can use bombs, get some, make some, and use them!!

You also might want to have Morrigan toss Tempest into those back corners, to take out the crossbows there, and hit Jarvia whenever she pulls back to there. This will let you focus on the henchmen who jump forward to attack. Flying swarm alone should take out one or two of Jarvia's buddies.

oh, I rather liked the family sword. I was sad that he couldn't enchant it. I suppose he'll have to give it up. it is a bit underpowered. new family sword then !

I've bought some elfroot from Varathorn and made a bundle of pots

If you don't mind me saying, your character builds don't seem very focused. Why does your warden have Dual Weapon and Melee Archer talents if he's fighting sword and shield? And what's going on with Alistair with talents from three warrior talent trees? Best to pick a build for each character and stick to it. If you have Alistair as a sword and shield warrior, for example, talents from any tree other than weapon and shield are talents wasted (with the singular exception of Indomitable, which IS, I'll grant you, a very nice talent for a tank-type, but that's the exception, not the rule).

Sorry, I know it might seem a bit late for that advice. But good luck with the fight. It's a toughie.

thanks, good points. I haven't specialised properly. perhaps with my next party !

I still want alistair to use a 2 handed weapon but he doesn't have the strength to use any that I've come across so far. I need to put all my points into strength when he levels. anybofy know where to find a 2 handed sword that alistair can use or a way to boost his strength (belts etc)

I recommend the Respec mod if you are on the PC. Remaking your characters become easy-peasy.

Personally, I would leave Cunning and CON at 16, and place those extra points into STR and/or DEX ( DEX 26 may be needed for some of the S&S talents).

You may wish to grab Deathblow ASAP to aid in Stamina. If you enjoy Crating; keep Poison. If not, allow Zev or Lil do the crafting, and take Survival.

Also an infinite supply of flasks at the Gnawed Noble in Denerim and less expensive than at Bodhan's.

And as far as the family sword....I sure wish it would lvl up with your character. Or any family usuable treasure.

I'm surprised you haven't found a two-handed sword Alistair could use with a strength of 26. There should be a few around, though yes many do require more strength (and 2H warriors should be boosting strength almost exclusively anyway). There should be several at various merchants or found on bodies when you're dungeon crawling.

As for strength boosting items, there's a belt you can buy from the dwarven trader you meet as a random encounter on the world map which gives +1 strength, The Harvest Festival ring found in the Stone Prisoner's DLC village of Honnleath (+2), a ring Lloyd the barman gives you after seeing Redcliffe through the attack at night (+2) and the Ring of the Warrior, found in Caridin's Cross in the Deep Roads of Orzammar after doing a small side quest (+2).

Dragon Age ranges from ridiculously easy to insanely hard depending on character build/items. Worst of all, the game sort of tries to trick you into believing willpower and constitution are worthwhile investments while actually you can severely weaken your character by investing too much in those. I also remember an ingame tip that strength is almost as critical for rogues as it is for 2h warriors. Seriously?

Hah, Bioware had me too with that "Hey, willpower is cool man!" stuff but fortunately, I did some math and...it sucks. Why would I want to get more mana when I could invest in Magic as well allowing me to make my spells more efficient resulting in a better cost/gain ratio?

We were all "n00bs" when we first played, and for me, I didn't read *any* posts, tips, books, etc on my first playthrough. There's a *lot* of, shall we say, disinformation . . . floating on message boards . . .

As for my "advice", just play, and stay away from mods. You'll learn a LOT more starting over from scratch then using a mod to "fix" your character. Call me a purist, but I don't like using mods/hacks for single player games. My first playthrough on Normal was crazy, I died a lot, the Tactics drove me insane, but in the end it was worth it. I'm doing another run on Normal again to figure out some "other" things since the 1.04 patch, and I'm still having fun.

Having fun is what it's all about, regardless of what game you're playing, and yeah, Jarvia is an overpowered d0rf wench. I had trouble with her first time around too. You're not alone. /smile

So I had Grey Warden buy a red steel longsword

Zervan added an enchanted dagger to his armoury to make the most of his dual weapon capability

and ditched the bow

Morrigan visit Zatharan and Bodhran and made some pots

On return

Morrigan uses Tempest on Jarvia whenever shes out of range. Zervan throws some firebombs as she approaches he front

shes dead - and the worlds a whole better place for it

cheers

Oh, I hate Tempest. Don't use bombs. I think Wynne would be of use there unless she dies then you're back to being in trouble. I think it would be very hard to win with Tempest. How did you get past the werewolves?

I feel your pain Johnny, Jarvia was the first annoying boss I met in the game. And I still think is one of the strongests (provided you don´t have level 20 or so). What I did to kill Jarvia with my mage was send my summoned skeleton to the traps that were near her. Don´t know how to manage but he "ate" 3 traps and her health dropped a lot.

She went to the party and got fisnished. Later I almost got beaten by the thugs there, but I prevailed at the end.

Was playing on hard, and I have refusen to lower the difficulty always. Hope this helps anyone crossing her
