Why is it so bad that we have an excellent single-player game here? Why does everything have to have an online, multi-player mode?

I agree, but a multiplayer mode would be nice. The only game mechanics that need changing: Smarter enemies to comepensate for human wit, disabling the pause function since you won't be lining up your parties attacks, only let the main player choose options to forward quests etc.
Now, I do love the game, and don't need it to have an MP aspect, but it'd be nice to go on a NWN-esque adventure with my buddies, like we used to.
Also several people are trying to get hooks and other methods of making games work online. If they succeed, a co-op mod is possible. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I was greatly saddened, by the fact there was no multiplayer options. Hopefully they will add it in soon.
I dont know if you read up on the game at all before buying, but Bioware has stated over and over again that there is no multiplayer option. I never gave multiplayer a thought while playing Baldurs Gate, and it doesnt bother me at all that this game is single player. I also wouldnt wait for them to release some sort of patch to add multiplayer in - it simply isnt happening...
however, maybe in 3-5 years from now when Dragon Age II comes out it will have some sort of multuplayer option.

right, i dont need multiplayer as well. A multiplayer Dragon Age would simply be a different game. I would want to lose the spacebar pause function and leaving the choices up to just the main player would take away from the game and make it a different animal

I doubt you will ever see a Multi-player mod to the game. It would require alot of work and writing your own networking system to run in the background. And even then you would only be hooking your other buddys into the AI players and there actions would be very limited.
At the end of the day I hope they do not add multi-player to the future Dragon Ages. They need to keep to there original plan / goal of it being a epic single player story.
There are plenty of other options out there better suited for multi-player / co-op that people can play. Lets leave the Dragon Age series alone and keep it / them epic single player games with an amazing world and story to tell.

Personally, I hope they do, but only focus on the single player campaign. Just give us multiplayer support in DA:O 2 and let the community focus on multiplayer.
Multiplayer is much better suited to support community content. It creates vastly more exposure of excellent quality creators and their creations. It also gives those creators many more options to create upon.
