You know what what? If you want to cherry pick the the most offensive posts then don't bother. Maybe Drew Karpyshyn has the right idea.

Or you could do the same seeing as most want to see them around, where as most would be perfectly happy not seeing your cheery disposition.

Hey, if all I did was respond to people picking on poor ol' me... :(

All I'm saying is they have a choice here: feel sorry for yourself or answer the intelligent posters... or don't answer at all, maybe that is best.

intelligent posters

Very rare. Most "intelligent posters" want the actual design philosophy either explained or changed for them, quite ridiculous really, specially on these forums. If most were actually talking about smart additions to the game I would agree, but most of it is complaining about the actual direction of the game. After that point, it becomes a decision of deciding whether or not you want to buy the game.

At that point, sure complain about the game, just don't get all pissy when you(not necessarily you, I mean you as in anyone) get ignored or called out.

I really hate how some people demand the devs to come right here and talk to them. Or to listen them whining...mostly. How they demand answers and criticize b4 even finding out if it's the case or not. Like the people saying "I am not going to buy DA2 because Hawke is human!". Okay what about the story/gamplay etc.? I wonder what these guys do when they buy a carton of milk they don't like. Demand the cow to come and confront them?

I appreciate what the DA writers share with us and i do kinda feel bad that the ME writers don't really talk to us fans. I would like to know more about the lore but i won't go and yell at them "Come here you--!" :P

Glad you appreciate it-- and I do try to respond to the more positive posts more than the other kind, but it's hard not to become engaged sometimes even if it's not really healthy. We who work on the game feel invested in what we create even more than the fans do (that's not meant as a slight, I think that should go without saying really) so that's why we come and read even if not all of us post.

I've had my coffee now, and my afternoon workout-- so it's easier to be positive. Sorry if I got snippy earlier. :)

So.... no "Yo Mama" face-off? I demand a showdown of some sort dammit! Otherwise the thread title is misleading! I hate misleading thread titles! How dare you people turn this into some sort of peaceful discussion! This is my fifth exclamation mark!

I for one appreciate when devs make their stand in the forums.

Anyways just wanted to say here - I never really liked baldurs gate, or Kotor - although I like star wars in general.
But I tried dragon age and I got totally into the story and gameplay. Same with mass effect and appreciated the changes that came with mass effect 2. Of course I can find some lil buggers but still a definite improvement for me.
So I can't wait, seriously, can't wait for dragon age 2 and for all that it will offer, I can only hope that it will make the story as intense as in the origins (I felt like it was an important main storyline and danger was everywhere with no time to rest).

Also it's just my opinion but I love the DLC support - whether you like the DLCs or not you gotta be happy that the company makes them and supports the game even so long after the release.

Keep up the good work

Awwh, we love you David Gaider :) I must say, I've NEVER heard of the lead writer of a video game spending as much time with us fans as you have.

But it isn't enough! If he truly cared he would be personally calling me several times a day to listen to my thoughts ranging from world government theories to how to make the purfect ham sandwich.

I don't expect writers to respond to me personally but considering a large portion of the community also feel the same/similarly I would expect a general response.  They did for Mass Effect and are doing so for Dragon Age and DA2.

Before ME2 was released and people were voicing their concerns over the revealed information the writers said trust us and judge us after you've played the game.  Well we played the game 9 months ago now, wrote countless novels worth on these forums about it and there has been not a peep from the writers.  It seems fine and dandy to post when you want to sell the game to people, but once it comes out and fans have been very disappointed by it then it's time to disappear.

So, let me get this straight.  The Mass Effect devs don't want to interact with a guy who:
- claims to represent the interests of a "large portion" of the ME fanbase, yet routinely gets smacked down by multiple other fans each time he posts about his disappointment with ME2
- feels that the way to make someone listen to his point is to write "countless novels"

Man.  What a bunch of weirdos.  <_<

Ohh, come on, slimgrin. They were a couple of cheap shots and you know it. David responds to all kinds of posts, both positive and negative. Can you really blame a developer for getting annoyed at "criticism" that simply says "Your game sucks and I don't like it"?

I honestly don't blame any developer for not participating in discussion on their website forum. I'm exceedingly happy that a number of people from the Dragon Age franchise do. They do it on their own time, and endure abuse and vitriol because of it.

Most players are not game designers and don't comprehend how a game is created. Players can make suggestions all they want, and designers could point out reasons and decisions that these choices were not made. Ultimately, comprehensive developer responses would probably end up going into a lot more depth than the person complaining wanted, and likely wouldn't appease them anyway because FEATURE X is still missing from "their" game.

QFT.

My own advice to the Developers: There is no panacea for human stupidity and bigotry.  Continue to ignore it; your sanity will thank you.

I think Mr. Gaider has a point regarding some of the ME fans. I think a lot of us are a bit too attached to those wonderful polygon characters we interact with in a virtual world (myself included).  Heck, DA2 isn't even out yet and there's already heated discussions about the game.  There was one thread, "Does anybody hope they Mass Effect-fy DA2?" and things got very heated there about things such as inventory.

I know that Christina Norman frequently posts ME stuff on her Twitter account (and I realize that makes me sound very creepy). They also asked for shirt ideas a while back, and I sent some of mine in and got a reply from Ms. Norman (all it was was, "thank you for your ideas," but it was still awesome). ^.^

I also asked a mod to stickie the Kaidan and Ashley DLC Wishlist. I asked a mod, who had to ask Priestly. We received a comment from Priestly in the forum--it was a "refused, sorry," post, but it was nice of him to at least acknowledge the forum in that way.

And I think it's fine if they only occasionally put in their comments. The ME forums seem pretty divided sometimes, regarding the storylines, RPG vs shooter elements, and with character love/hate, number of characters, dialogue...

But, we know they lurk, and they listen to fans. LotSB proved that.
The devs just don't want to get burned through observing the constantly erupting fanbase in the process. But they do listen and reply to fans, so I give them kudos for doing that in their spare time.

actually, before ME2 was released a LOT of the ME2 devs came into the forum regularly. (especially when the ME2 was up and running) once the game was released they got quiet (and who could blame them with people yelling and screaming at them?) They warned everyone in the ME2 site if people became TOO much of a bother they were no longer going to join in. What do you know? They did EXACTLY what they said they would do, and I do not blame them.
