DA2 writers vs. ME writers

If they are willing to talk to us then care about us. As a group anyway, I imagine individuals we matter very little.

Which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they returned after the official announcement of ME3. At least I hope so.silentassassin264 wrote...
To be fair, Patrick Weekes was always posting on the forums during ME2's buildup. They just disappeared after the game was released.

I'm just glad that the team have enough patience to deal with the community and reveal new and interesting information, answering our lore related questions and such. To those who stomp their feet and yell at them for not answering to their yells, stop acting like you're entitled to their posts. Stomp your feet loud enough and you'll scare even the most devout forum posting Bioware staff.
Edit: Rereading that, it's a little hostile but I'm too tired to try and trim it out. I fear the post would lose coherence.

Honestly, if I was in a position similar to the ME2/DA2 team myself, I wouldn't even consider going on the forums. The forums are probably one of the most hostile places to do anything "official". Anything you say will be ripped apart, people will make false conclusions out of what you say and scold anybody who disagrees with their opinions or viewpoint. Some newbie might come in, enjoyed the game greatly and played it a dozen times, to share his affection of the game and then he's ripped apart because his opinion is WRONG. Let's not forget the hyperbole where people go around and say "MASS EFFECT 2 WAS THE WORST GAME EVER!" and such.

No, I'm not him. Although I did support him though when the Shamans were starting to threaten his life and call him a waste of human life, further proving my point.

I, for one, am glad for the little bits and pieces the devs contribute to the forums. For the time they give to tell us about their games. It's real nice, and shows they do pay attention to their fanbase despite all the heat they get. Keep up the great work, devfolk, and don't let the naysayers rip ya down.
Also, for the record: I loved ME2. But it was Lair of the Shadow Broker that made me want to commit.

I tell you, the devs were far more enthusiastic then (granted it was the eve of a product launch)
They also let slip stuff you would not hear today...like Morrigan's 'Otherness' or the visualization of Old gods as being at the center of an outwardly radiating circle of lesser dragons...
Those were the days of Maria Caliban (Queen of snark), Devija, and Imported Beer...
Those were the times when forumites would find out stuff the devs were not even ready to discuss... As soon as Bioware released the first DAO trailer someone announced that King Cailan had been betrayed. I remember Chris Priestly and the other devs fleeing the forum so as not to be drawn into that discussion....

But in all seriousness, I would like the ME writers to just discuss things with us more. Lore things and all that? Yeah, the ME forums don't get that sometimes as good or as extensively as the DA: forums do on a fairly decently regular basis.
In all seriousness, us developer folk have varying tolerances for the forums. Some just like to watch but are hesitant to interact, some are just too busy, some are wary about what it's "safe" to talk about and so err on the side of caution... and some think it's crazy-making like having five loud people piled into the back seat of your car with each one shouting different directions while simultaneously criticizing your driving. And then a sixth calls you on your cellphone just to troll you.
It's all completely voluntary on our part whether we come here and interact or not-- all of us on DA2 who do it do so on our own time (and recognizance). If there's more of us who do it it's probably because we talk about it more among ourselves. It's just a project culture thing, I think (which is totally a real thing, believe it or not), and I would never think of suggesting to them that they should dive into the Crazy Pool more often... any more than I'd want them to suggest we should dive into it less.
Which, quite frankly, is the far more sensible course of action.
lol I love this guy, especially when he curls my arm to the back of my head, and makes me cough blood, while forcing me to eat my own poop, I mean words XD. cough cough, still have a bad taste in my mouth lol:sick:. And those are on his good days. Still a great writter, and apericate you taking the time to hear what we have to say, another reason we like the game, and thank you for what you do, though I do wish we you could ease little on the "make fans feel like sh$%t part". that leaves..... idk alot of strange emotions......

The game was not the worst game ever made but a mediocre game.
The story was very amateurish and had no class compared to the first game.
If the writers from ME2 want to hide it’s up to them, but i will not be tricked again in to buying a game like i was with ME2.

I do really appreciate the fact that some of the DA writing team takes part in the discussion on these forums, it provides great insight on things one would not know otherwise, but I don't believe it's our place to judge them for being or not being here.

I would say that he is pointing to a select number of fans on these sites. BioWare for the most part is willing to discuss many things even strong criticism if it is presented in a logical and mostly friendly way. The people that rant and froth or make posts with very little logic behind them are the type Mr. Gaider is talking about. Goodness knows there is a great volume of that kind of stuff.

ME2 was excellent overall. a very fun game with some great companions. The story was pretty good other than the very beginning part (how they got Shepherd back into the game.) The game was certainly not perfect but it was on par at least with the 1st one in my mind.

I think it’s the opposite of what you say, if people complain about some features they get attacked constantly.

To be honest, my impression is that you'll get a bit of that on both sides. The very negative fans are particularly vicious, but you'll also get a bit of a gangpile by fans every time someone expresses a negative opinion that isn't widely shared by others-- politely expressed or not.
The strange thing about the forums is that there appears to be a bit of a panic when anyone expresses an opinion that others don't like, as if BioWare will be unable to distinguish it from the truth or otherwise weigh its merits on our own unless that opinion is immediately and vociferously discounted. Truth is, our critical evaluation skills aren't as bad as you might think-- we tend to know when an opinion is widely held or (more commonly) just the same five people driving up the post count, and even when it is widely held we still have to weigh it against the fact that such opinions come without a knowledge of the issues we face internally. There really is no need for the panic, and sometimes it's a bit disheartening to watch when it ensues.

I think that Bioware has a lot of fantastic writers, artists, and programmers working for them, and these people should get the credit they deserve.
If you're going to put unrealistic expectations on them, go out and make your own damn game.
EDIT: all "you"s are general, of course. I'm not pointing this at anyone in particular, just voicing an opinion.
