My first playthrough, I went all the way to Redcliffe reloading any time any of the characters fell in battle because I thought they were dead. I wondered what injury kits were for, because I never had any injured characters. I was way into the game before I discovered that injuries were healed by just going to camp as well as by injury kits.

I did the same thing!  It wasn't until Alistair "died" once just as the battle ended and I saw him get up off the floor that I realized dead wasn't truly dead!

I figured something like that would happen after playing ME where one of my fallen squadmates got up after a fight. It was towards the end of the Eden Prime mission when fighting the geth to get to the train following Saren. Since it was my first playthrough, it was a rough fight for me. When I saw the "dead" squadmate my thought was "Crap, I'm gonna have to redo this." When the squaddie stood up with some comment.

You can flirt with Teagan? I'm not gonna do it but I guess my City Elf Fem-Rogue was kept in check by Leliana's presence, then.

That actually made my fem elf mage's day. He's pretty blunt and completely unapologetic about it.

Won't matter who's in your party.  He'll act like he doesn't have time to chat but he'll open up if you persist.  You should try it sometime just to see it.... it *is* rather cute and adds another dimension to his praise after you help save Redcliff.

Yeah, I didn't grab ME and ME2 until just a couple months ago so for me it was just the opposite... when squad members went down in ME I didn't even bat an eyelash, thanks to my experiences with DA.

Definitly discovering the "hold" command at the bridge puzzle when you're looking for Andraste's ashes after one and a half week of playing and wondering how on earth I was supposed to solve that puzzle.

And that Zevran has no personal quest, that particulary irked me.

He does have one - sort of.

It felt more like an afterthought to me.

Well the first time into the fade with DAO was the most fustrating as I did not give the mouse a second thought. Wandered there for dare I say hours. Same thing again in the fade of DAA wandered for no joke days(three sessions playing) . When I found out what needed doing felt really bad. The other moment was with Zev in the back alley when he shows up and fights against me I reloaded and went to camp stripped him then killed him. Betrayed!! Ok I told myself the next day its just a game. That was an uncalled for moment.

On one playthrough, I'd not bothered to talk to him in camp at all so he was still neutral towards me when this encounter came up.  Having been here before in previous games with him at least "warm", I glibly selected the "Of course I'd have to be dead, first" line and was floored when Zev says something like "that can be arranged" and attacks!  I soooooooooo didn't see that coming.

My first Warden was a DC Rogue archer, wore massive plate, and I saved Owen's daughter before scanning the walkthrough info on archers & longbows. I chalked all my design errors up to RP, and performed the US....

Not exactly facepalm worthy but...I didn't know you could flirt with Teagen until my 8th(or was it 9th) run.

:pinched:   :/     . . . . . . . . . facepalm . . . . . . . . . . . this is why I read the forums - on my 11th (?) paythrough

One of these days I'll have to click on the "So tell me about yourself" option with Teagen.

First run through - no points in coercion.

Me : "How the dickens do I get this blacksmith to let me inside?"
Owen : "Bugger off"

I almost made that mistake in my second play through.  For some reason, I just didn't start off with coercion, even though I knew how effective it is, and then I was wondering why everyone was telling me to go away.  I made it to Ostagar before I figured out what was going on.

Yet another one (please tell me I'll stop making these stupid mistakes eventually). . .

For the fight with the Broodmother, I changed Alistair's tactics to [Target: Boss Rank or Higher --> Switch to ranged weapon] so that he wouldn't fall victim to her "pick up melee attacker, cover in vomit, drop lifeless body on ground" attack. I also kept my distance and shot arrows and threw bombs at her until her HP got low enough to risk my wading in with sword and dagger. It worked, too --I got the melee kill cutscene on her which was pretty sweet, and no one had to die. I feel pretty smart, right?

Cut to last night, when my PC turns to Alistair during a rare free second in the Quaint Hovel in Denerim--

PC: "Why is Alistair attacking Gaxkang the Unbound with the Antique Warden Crossbow?"

*facepalm*

Deciding to "runscript respec" on my healer in the middle of battle at Redcliffe. "you cannot level up at this time". Doh!

And like a lot of other folks I ran straight out the doors at the end, first RT. How rude of me to leave my guests without a word like that!

Awakening > Wending Wood > Stone Pentagram;

Taking too long to figure out that not all the stones had to have a magical flame connecting. And after having correctly connected the loop several times, not clicking on and activating the original stone to reveal the chest.

Then going on to the Silverite Mine and playing the whole mission only to find Bioware and EA planted a gigantic-ogre-sized fist below the belt, by having that mission extremely glitched and bugged. Fortunately, I had several saves prior to entering the mine.

You're not the only one who wasted too much time on that puzzle.

First playthrough, I hadn't heard much about the game and didn't know there was no PC voiced dialogue, so when choosing a voice in CharGen, I noticed that it stretched her mouth to look too wide for her face. So what did I do? Gave her the narrowest mouth I've ever seen until it looked normal when she spoke the snippets of dialogue in CharGen, thinking I'd be seeing her talking most of the time in the game anyway... Yeah, I had a pretty ugly character on my first playthrough.

I didn't realize you could use the WASD keys until halfway through my first run, which made my life a lot easier as someone who doesn't prefer tactical view.

Didn't have Sten my first playthrough because I couldn't persuade the Revered Mother and didn't realize that Leliana could just lockpick his cage. Didn't get Dog either; I got the Wilds flower but forgot to give it to the kennel master.

I was playing a Dual Wielder, and thought it was great fun. So it should be great fun to make literally EVERYONE dual wielders, right? Yeah, no. The Deep Roads were nearly unbearable with a dual-wielding Oghren, no injury kits and a healer I didn't know how to use or spec properly.

My most recent facepalm would be doing an M!Cousland runthrough for the sole purpose of becoming prince-consort and seeing Anora and Loghain in Awakening. I didn't realize there was a specific dialogue option you had to take with her for it to become available, and you couldn't just announce it at the Landsmeet like you can with Alistair. Forty hours wasted.

And I just won't mention anything about the Fade on my first runthrough. *shudders*

My biggest facepalm moment?

Not discovering the wonders of pressing tab until my THIRD. PLAYTHROUGH. Boy, I felt smart after that incident. All those items and codex entries I missed. :crying:
Oh, and don't get me started on all those times I forgot to disable 'Hold Party'. You go down fast as a fragile little mage without your precious tank to protect you. *hugs Alistair*

Not knowing that bringing up the radial could reveal hidden or partially hidden items if I swung it around.

I actually didn't know that some characters were romanceable in the game. I'd heard mention of a bi elf, but that was it. So I'm going through my first playthrough and I'm all awesome, Alistair and I are totally going to be bff and wreck some faces, hell yeah, wait what why is he kissing my mage?!

I totally left Sten to die the first time. I was like huge surly dude in a cage, not interested.

I didn't pay attention to skills or read a lot of the spells the first time around as a mage. Consequently my only real tactic was to set things on fire or freeze them.

Also I was a complete putz and didn't bother giving my mage any specialisations. I thought they were unique to characters, since none shared any. It wasn't until I downloaded some DLC and went back to camp that I bothered giving her any. T_T

My human noble, last of his house chose the dark ritual because he could not see the Cousland line broken despite his dislike of morrigan and hatred for magic only to find bloody fergus at the after party. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I, too, have shared the infamous "not discovering the tab key" thing; I think I was well into my third playthrough before I found it. I also found out by accident that if you hold down both buttons on the mouse, your character moves continuously -- much more efficient than click and move. Took forever to find the party camp on my first playthrough. I think I found that information on the forums. Ditto on taking an age to figure out how to get out of Denerim. Completely failed to understand how effective gift giving could be during my first playthrough. At least I'd read the manual and knew basically how it worked.

My first major one was missing out on using my companions to rescue my Warden from Fort Drakon (missed out on all the awesome dialogue *sigh*) Also, I am guilty of not discovering "camp" for awhile. And for my first play through, having a relationship with Alistair and having him do the Dark Ritual.. without having ever slept with him with my Warden prior to the ritual. Poor guy.

Oh, I just remembered some more of my idiot moments! Mostly in Lothering, when I was still figuring out how everything worked. Mainly, I reloaded waaaay more than necessary, because I was afraid of missing companions. Someone informed me that I needed to get the Lothering companions out of the way quickly, because I wouldn't have another chance (referring to the destruction of Lothering, of course). I, the fool that I am, thought this meant that I needed to get the quests done immediately. As in, without starting other quests even in the same town. Yeah. I must've reloaded around six times.

I'm not too smart.

Getting owned by fireball game after game. Owning with fireball when I had to use it in burning man form yet NOT speccing my mages into fire. Now I can't live without fireball lol

Yeah I was the idiot as well that kept reloading the Cauthrien fight thinking that it was my only opportunity to get her sword lol
