Hi all,
I just did a run through DMFI's DM101 tutorial mod available on the vault. As I have done it numerous times and forgotten everything I learned within a month or two, I figured I should take notes. So that is what these are. There is a lot missing from this tutorial. What I focused on were the not immediately obvious things such as what the "kill" button does. Instead it contains the elements of the DMFI that one might have to figure out or ask someone or take the DM 101 tutorial for. This is not meant to replace the DMFI 101 but rather is meant as a quick reference sheet once the tutorial is completed.
I also did try to make it for Brian's (Pain's) DMFI but as that is still a work in progress, this is woefully incomplete. It also does not include the chat commands. It should so I will get that from Brian at some point.
Anyways, here it is. Please review it and report any errors or big omissions on my part:
DM Commands
Painofdungeoneternal is redoing the DMFI. So this instructional text largely refers to his version. Some of the features in his version are not included in the original version.
The two main tools for a DM are the Chooser and Creator. In many cases, the buttons at the top of the Chooser are also found in the DMFI visible on the top of the screen. So, in the following text, where you see “select the object in the Chooser and then click on the “X” button” (“X” being one of the buttons on the top of the chooser) there is another way to do it: right-click on the object to target it and then click on the “X” button (“X” being one of the DMFI buttons at the top of the screen).
As you have probably already noticed, I will be using the term “object” to refer to Non-Player Characters (NPCs), Player Characters (PCs), Placeables, Items etc.
Selection and Targeting and Moving*:
1.To select an object in the area, Cntrl+left-click on it*
2.To select multiple objects in an area, Cntrl+left-click and drag until all objects are in the selection box*
3.To target an object, right-click on it. **
4.To select an object in the Chooser, left-click on it**
5.To select an object in the Creator, double-click on it***
* These are mainly used to move an object or get it to force attack another object. To move or force attack, Shift-Left click.
** These are used to apply a DM command to an object (kill it, heal it, teleport it, access its inventory etc.)
*** Used to create objects in the area. After selecting the object, click on the spot in the area where you want it to appear. For items, click on the recipient and it will appear in it’s inventory.
Teleporting the DM:
1. Open map (“M”) and double click on it where you want to go. Target location must have walkmesh.
2. Select an object in the Chooser and click on “Goto”.
3. Select an area in the Chooser and click on the “Goto” button.
Teleporting NPCs and PCs:
1. You can send NPCs to the Limbo area for temporary storage. Select them in the chooser and then press the “Limbo” button.
2. Select the PC/NPC in the Chooser then click on the “Jump” button. Then click on the spot in the area where you want the PC/NPC to appear. Note: the DM would therefore need to be in the destination area and able to click on the spot where the PC/NPC would arrive.
Talking through NPCs:
1. Possess the NPC and speak as you normally would in MP
2. Right-click (to target) the speaker then click on the voice entry button. Select the language then speak. You can now switch to other speakers by right-clicking on them then typing what you want them to say.
Now a few general points that don’t fit anywhere else:
1.Toggle Immortal: “On” means that when the target dies, a corpse is left behind that can be resurrected.
2.Toggle Invulnerable: “On” means the target cannot be harmed.
3.Toggle AI: “Off” means the target won’t react to anything except by DM intervention.
4.Set Script Hidden: Make creature invisible
5.Dump Local Variables: Remove Local Variables from Object
6. Creatures in the creator also list their faction and their CR:
Hostile Faction: Attacks all other factions
Defender Faction: Will come to the aid of the Commoner and Merchant factions if they are attacked
Merchant Faction: Only assist their own faction
Commoner Faction” Only assist their own faction
7. Right-click on NPC/Object etc. to target them. PCs can also be targeted by right-clicking their portrait.
8. Spacebar: Pause
9. DM Objects Commands (available by Right-Clicking on an object): To lock/unlock object.
10. Can Kill/Heal anything anywhere when using Chooser.
11. DM’s don’t set off traps. Traps can be removed using the “Kill” button.
12. DM’s cannot see encounter triggers except in the chooser. You can select it in the chooser and then click on “Goto”. Triggers can be removed using the “Kill” button.

As a follow up post, these are some of the things I am uncertain about:
1. Free Camera: Other than scrolling to zoom in/out, I could not figure out how to move the camera around.
2. Set Script Hidden: A nice toy. How do you unhide the creature again?
3. In the DMFI 101 tutorial, they say that to change the faction of a group, you should pause the game, select each individual in the group and change their factions one by one. Is it now possible to group select and apply something (like changing the faction etc.) to the group instead of having to do it for each individual?
4. Shift-Click to force attack. Due to some issues, I haven't been able to test this myself. Is this right?
5. Can someone please explain the difference between "take control" and "take control full powers". From what I understand, the only difference is not being able to access the right-click menu when you "take control".

1. aim where you want to go, use mouses wheel to move forward or back. This moves where your camera is without regard for the dm avatar.
3. you can do whole area as well. Not sure how to access a DM's selection via script.
5. One you become the creature, with full powers you are still a dm and and still do all dm spells and powers.

1. Thanks.
2. So I can cntrl-click and drag to select a group of creatures, use the target menu and click on a faction button and that will change the faction of all of them?
3. Thanks. So I guess you have more evil powers to unleash on the PCs if you take control full powers. Which may not be such a nice thing to do.

Is there any way to delete or destroy items in a players inventory?

I believe so. I'm not sure about the default DM client. But in Brian's DMFI, if you view the player's inventory, there is a button to "take item" (and you can select items in a player's inventory).
