Hi. :)

I've never considered myself very good with character creators, and I was hoping to gain a better understanding of what sliders have what effect.  Has anyone written a basic face creation tutorial, or is there a general site out there I can go to for tips?  I'd like to be able to express (*cough* more attractive) my design ideas, better.

Thanks!

Don't know if there is ... but it's not that hard to figure out what the sliders do (rotate the head a bit, check it up front and from the sides). I'm not that good at making nice characters myself, but with a bit of experimentation, I think you can get nice results.

You could try sending a message to PurpleLady or SevantofNature They pretty much have the handle on character creation just look at their albums. I am not to bad but i lack the necessary gray matter to transpose my thoughts to words so I would be better off showing people hands on then describing it. I am sure either of them will help you or guide you to someplace that can. Tell them Dennis Carpenter sent you, cant guarantee if that will get you and answer or a slap i the face XD but it might help.

Unfortunately tutorials would be for things like Zbrush and such.....since people can make money from that :)

Like Tal said, try experimenting a bit. If you have trouble with specifics. Like if you want to get a certain hairstyle to fit and it isn't looking too hot, etc.

I'd be glad to help you out as well.

Generally speaking, the advice I've always heard devs give- is choose a preset that you somewhat like and mess around with it a little to get something closer to what you like.

Why does it matter what your character looks like? The first thing you are going to do in the game is buy a helmet anyway.

I usually choose one of the presets I like the most and experiment with it until I like the results.

You've got a while yet to mess around and tweak with ideas until you find something you like :)

My suggestion to get a "blank slate" sort of character, put the preset face slider ALL the way to the right. Your character should now be bald and fair skinned. You'll also notice that they are average on every slider. Just slap on some hair (unless you don't want any) and begin shaping the face.

I still think it would be much easier to have a "Most butt-ugly" character contest than a "Most beautiful" contest.
