Could I just clarify here, that the retail Collector's Edition does not include Warden's Keep? (apparently I'm behind with the times)

Correct. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with Warden's Keep, The CE does not.

So after you finish the quest, does the npc leave your camp? Or is he permanently stationed there to let you know when new content is available?

no...he leaves camp. hes just there for wardens keep....he does however become a permanent merchant at wardens keep when its done.

DLCs are some kind of expansions, the only difference here is the price. The released DLCs are tremendously overpriced compared with traditional expansions.

If the DLCs sell well, do people think we will ever see a "traditional" expansion for the "traditional" price of $30?

EA executives would be reeeeeaaaally dumb, if they sell you for $30 what you are happy to buy at $140.

So, lets defend our "traditional" scheme, say no to overpriced DLCs.

Add-ons like Warden's Keep are great, but after I finish the main campaign I'll probably avoid expansions that require replaying the game just for an hour or so new content or to use a new weapon/spell/armor. Unless it's something that fundamentally changes or adds to the game experience like a new class. As time goes on I'm really hoping to see expansions that continue the story and/or expand into areas outside of Ferelden.

For the 200 or 300 or more hours I'll get out of this game, having bought all the DLC, I think the pennies per hour of entertainment is well worth it.  Thanks Bioware!  Thanks EA!  :D

buy the game, pirate the DLC. Problem Solved. F' EA.  I REALLY despise this pidly DLC stuff.  I would rather them save it all up, and give me another 20-30hrs, in a proper $50 expansion.

One of the programmers recently released a free addon that sticks a storage chest in your camp during all normal camp-activities.

use at your own risk, obviously.

The NPC served his purpose for Bioware/EA for me. When I spoke to him I went "Oh...I don't have that already?" plunked down my extra $7 and went my merry way. Personally, I enjoyed Warden's Keep. Mostly because there were some interesting moral dilemas in the story line. I'm not sad at all that I bought it.

And since this is one game I plan to play through multiple times, if something else comes up in the next few months, I'll probably by that too. Using DLC on other play throughs let's me experience a (slightly) different game than the other time(s) I've played.

So maybe its the business degree in me talking, but I fully support this type of sales pitch in the game and hope that it's the way of the future.

I heard by the second or third quarter they have your soul actually leave your body.
Or at least that's what a business degree-pursuing friend of mine said.

I don't know if it can be helped. They're taking advantage of the fact that it's possible to do what they're doing in order to make more money. I would prefer the content to be installed from the get-go. It was obviously already made, bioware doesn't have money issues - they just want MORE MORE MORE (motto of american society). So why didn't they put it in the game? Because they're not trying to make a good product, they're making a good product because if they don't they won't make money. It's a subtle difference, but an important one. So, they don't put it in there, saving it for people who want to pay extra.

Best post in this thread (except for the american maybe, it's like that in most countries in the world).

Yes sadly i don't think we will get to see any expansions... Why would they make a expansion like you said when they can make 10 times more money by selling 20min content for 7$ each?

I'm not sure why you need the clarification since the OP put it extremely unambiguously, but yes, the CE does not include Warden's Keep.

Mordaedil wrote...

The way I see it, you're not paying $7 for the DLC.

You're paying $7 to fund continued patching and support for future DLC for the game.

People should pay extra to fund continued patching now? I was under the impression that that was part of the retail fee. As for paying for future DLC, I'd like to think one pays for future DLC by buying that DLC once it is released.

MisterShine wrote...

I don't really think of it as "Is Warden's Keep worth 7$?"

But moreso "Is Dragon Age + Warden's Keep worth 57$?"

To which the answer is a resounding yes.

Then I get to ask "Is Dragon Age CE + Warden's Keep worth 81$?" To which the answer is a resounding no. In any case, I think you should measure the value of a product by its content, not another product's. But here, there are other issues besides the simple question of whether Warden's Keep is worth $7.

Duck and Cover wrote...

I've decided not to buy it. But out of curiosity how many hours of gameplay is it?

Depending on the person, it seems to range between 20 minutes and 2 hours. Most people get it finished in under 1 hour, it seems.

If the NPC really bugs you just wait for a mod that removes him from your camp. (or do it yourself)

I've already explained what the problem is with "use a mod to fix it" in my post on the second page of this thread.

Y'know what?

I enjoyed it.

Nice to see a more human side to the Grey Wardens, rather than having them be these impossibly high avatars of awesome and greatness and wonder that Duncan gives you the impression of. (Yes, because Duncan is an impossibly high avatar of awesomeness and greatness. We miss ya', Duncy. *Sniff.*)

A few of you see it my way: It's all about the RATIO. The game costs $50. I know people have said that the game will provide 100 hours of entertainment but let's be conservative and say it provides 50 hours. That sets up a measure we can use to determine the value for our dollar. $7 should provide seven hours of entertainment.

I bought the Stone Prisoner expecting a fairly substantial module -- Imagine my disappointment when my $22 kept my entertained for only 2 hours.

Now I have NO PROBLEM paying for extra content -- in fact I very much hope this game keeps my busy for YEARS with fantastic module after module but now I'm afraid to buy another. I know how much work goes into creating these things, I used to make them for NWN and NWN2... but $22 for 2 hours of play is just not right.

TL DR: get the keep if you are gonna play the game more than 1 time

read every codex really slllloooowwww....or play through the keep on each of 3 play throughs and you got 6 hours of "extra" entertainment for $22...and the ladder example is only valid if you play the game once and dont ever play it again

I paid 65 bones for my game and all the "extras" and i have close to 150 hours played on 1.5 play throughs. So lets use reality as our ladder of measurement here. 43 cents per hour of game play for me so far and you know what...it gets cheaper everytime i play it.

Now thats PRICELESS

I (sort of) agree with the comic. In-game salesmen don't bother me, but I must admit I never considered buying Warden's Keep. Until I see big expansions, I'm not bothering with little DLCs.

I am all for DLC, and I even bought the existing one so far.

However, I would like to join myself to the players that kindly ask Bioware/EA not to use in-game NPC's to advertise for it.

Thank you :)

I was pissed off when the npc offered me the dlc, i thought i was legitimately getting a new quest...

I am proud to say that as a PC gamer we don't get any of those god damn in game adds that console player have to deal with on certain games....the npc was too far. I will play my free DLC that came with the game, and will not pay a cent more, I already bought the collectors edition, they should have included it in that instead of a pointless cloth map. I installed the game, the DLC, and now the disk is in it's case where it shall stay for possibly several years until i format my HDD again. One of the pluses of PC gaming.

I went ahead and bought Wardens Keep right off, like someone else said, seven bucks is nothing. If you can't afford 7 dollars you best stop buying computer games altogether and get a decent job or an education or something. I did have some issues with the DLC though. It was very short and somewhat uninspired. Not even a good side adventure really. After the completion you don't get to use the damn castle, WTF chuck? I thought this was the Grey Warden's keep. Aren't I the last Grey Warden? Why don't I get the key to my digs? The chest thing bothers me too. I have to go up into the boonies every time i want to use my chest. Hey, I got Shale and Sten. They are big dudes, can't they carry my extra gear or what? I got this camp too but I can't leave extra booze or clothes or my party hat there. Jeez Louis, half my cronies are camped out waiting on me. They can't watch my stuff. Come on.....

I have to say that DAO is a fantastic game and is exactly what I wanted in a PC RPG, I bought the retail CE and was disappointed that Wardens Keep was not included. I mean more often then not the CE has all the content available at release right ?  I was just getting my credit card out to get some points when I ran across this topic... after reading how little actual game play time it comes with I'm just not interested in it anymore.

DLC is a plus but for an extra 20 mins no, if it was 2 hours worth I would certainly buy it even tho I feel slighted it wasn't included in the edition I bought.

In hopes someone from Bioware reads this Please flesh out your DLC, charge what you will but make it worth while to the consumer. I'm happy to give you my money for a quality product, this is a truely fantastic game.  Wardens's Keep however does not strike me as quality.

P.S. Thanks for the link to the Camp storage chest. :D

What? That's disturbing and a completely unrealistic measure for people. If you've logged 150 hours into the game already, that means you've spent nearly 60% of the time between November 3rd and right now just playing Dragon Age.

So what you're telling me is that if you dont go to school and don't work and do nothing but eat and play Dragon Age, Warden's Keep is worth the money?

That's the most mind-numbingly dumb argument I have ever read from mindless DLC supporters. Holy mother of god, 60% of your time is spent on this game? Really? This is the argument you're going to use to convince us?

Ummm the stone prisoner is substational as you get a completley new companion with dialouge, if you just do the quest yes its just about an hour but if you have the companion i think you will find that you got better value for your money
