So, I've spent the weekend gently muddling my way through some of the tuts on the Builder wiki, and have managed to create (among other things), a two-room indoor level of my very own.  I've now opened it in my module to add doors etc., but I've come across something that's puzzling me - the door hooks don't match up.  I used Ferelden castle interior pieces to make the walls and doorways (fci wall 01, fci wall 02, fci wall 05), but when I try to place a door (e.g., Door, Ferelden, Large) in the connecting doorway, I find that the door hook on the archway is placed on the upper third of the arch whereas the hook on the door is placed on the lower third.  When the hooks snap together, part of the door disappears into the wall above the archway and I'm left with a gap underneath.  Am I just choosing the wrong door, or is there some way to set the height of the hooks to match up so that the door actually occupies the archway as it's supposed to?  (I know that technically it's not necessary to use the hooks, but I like things to be tidy and line up!  Also, it would be good to know if there's something I've missed.)

More by luck than judgement, I've also managed to follow several of the tutorials to make a module in which a generic PC is spawned, has a stilted chat with a quest giver chappie and then goes into a hut to die horribly at the hands of tthe hurlocks waiting there because he has no stats or equipment.  Can anyone point me at the right tutorial that I need to follow to give the PC a class and some equipment?  I don't really want to start making custom backgrounds or classes just yet.  Ok, I just literally found the bit of script I need to do this, and my crappy lil test module works!  Hurray!  :D

Lastly, this might be a silly question, but can anyone suggest some good tutorials and/or exercises for learning the DA:O scripting system?  Preferably aimed at beginners, if possible.  (I'm only really familiar with POVray's language, which is helping a little but not as much as I'd like!)

Thanks in advance for any assistance!  :)

Its quiet possible that the Doorhooks arent compatible for every combination. They are made by the artist working on a frame and its door at once, to ensure best fit. But only as long as the same combination is used.

Yes, many of the door hook locations vary. I discovered this when making my own door frames. It's just another example of DA throwing logic out the window. Why standardise something when you can make everything unique?! Surely it's more fun that way?

Good news is that you don't need to snap the door onto its hooks for it to work in game. You can just place the door exactly where you want it to be.

>.<; Right-o! Thanks guys! (On the subject of things being different for the hell of it - the Area and Level creator navigation systems much? I keep suffering disconnect if I've been using one for a while and then switch to the other. Guess I'll get used to it eventually.)

Indeed. Presumably it was a legacy of two different designers and their individual preferences. It might make some sense if one or the other was actually good, but when both suck you have to wonder what the merit of the decision was.
