I ran into the need to do this today and was stumped. I know how to ling an object to a character but in this circumstance, the sword is already visible on their backs. Placing another that's exactly lined up with the first in order to animate it for the cutscene seems a tad baroque. ;) There must be an easier way. I thought when I turned the gad on, they might just automatically draw an equipped weapon, but no such luck. What should I be doing?

There are 2 stages to this (at least this is what I've always done and it always works):

1) add a new track, and select an appropriate unsheath/draw weapon animation.

2) play the animation by dragging the blue bar above the timeline, and stop when their hand is in the right place, i.e., roughly in position over their shoulder. Now add a new track, select 'Add Action', and from the option select 'Draw Weapon'. When the animation resumes from that point, your actor should have their weapon in their hand.

Hope that makes sense. It's basically synchronizing a draw weapon animation with the draw weapon action.
