So, I find this in the Academy. I make my golem using it, have Safirya beef him up. I'm still losing to the Maiden. I disassemble my golem, and the galvanized is now a regular torso? Any idea's/suggestions? Really looking to beat the guy. Thanks!

Don't disassemble the golem. Sorry, but that's the only solution. I always save just before starting to build.
p.s. Doesn't that first golem you fight seem to have a spell cast on him? Hmmm.

I had to disassemble, as my combination wasn't working. 
And I dunno about the first golem. I handled him fairly quickly.

Is it even possible to *cheat* in a Red Wizard contest?
This used to be winnable but since one of the patches, it's not a fair match however you build your golem.

Do you use "special" fists and boots?
Also perhaps most importantly, what essence did you use in construction. As far as I remember, the golem's performance depends mainly on essence used (the higher the grade, the better).

I had the galvanized torso, scorching head, shocking arms, and swift legs. And I'm unable to to cast on either golem. When I hover over, I only get the "talk to" icon. I was however, finally able to beat him with the above combination. Thanks for all the help.

This was a long time ago now so you probably found a way around or gave up. You need special versions of each part. Then you get Safiya to beef it up. After that, all I did was put it in the ring and it narrowly beat the hardest thing. Note that some of the parts you may have found in the earlier Acts don't have special qualities and should not be used. Just before talking to the red mage to start the fight, cast buffs on it though I managed without buffs. Oh and I used the smallest possible spirit essence though you can always disassemble the thing later and take back whichever essence you used.
