So if I want a placeable to have text popup briefly if you click on it (like when you look at a book or scroll in game), can I do that simply by choosing an examinable placeable and adding text in the PopupText box when I make the placeable, or do I have to run a script, too?
Sorry for the noobish question.

Try it and see - you'll find that the simple approach works.

Awesome, I suppose over-thinking it was silly, eh?
One other quick Q - when using placeables with a dialog, does it specifically have to say (dialog) after it in order for the chosen .dlg to work? And if so, can I just place an invisible object (dialog) over any placeable to give it the dialog I want?

You can make any placeable start a conversation by intercepting the USE event in its script. I understand that the invisible dialog object works, too, but I haven't tried it.

Unless you are overriding the EVENT_TYPE_USE in your script (not worth the hassle just for a dialogue), you have to use dialog placeables. Using invisible object works very well ( you can grab additional invisible boxes of various sizes here). The advantage of using invisible boxes is that you can place the prop in the level and get it to look good with the lighting which is not possible with placeables.

Incidentally, if you have a lot of text, you can put it in the codex instead of the popup box. It works automatically - in the Variables for the placeable, you specify the plot resource name in PLC_CODEX_PLOT and plot flag number in PLC_CODEX_FLAG.

Awesome. Thanks for the suggestions!
