Uhm... I'm actually quite a novice when it comes to model tweaking (and everything else for that matter...) but, I usually just do little fixes, like changing WOK faces in tileset models, or merging some models for wings, some creature resizing and tileset placeable merges... nothing too fancy. So, I've been reading the thread and find many problems with the Plus thingies. Say, is it safe enough for me to use them for simple tasks like the ones I mentioned, or is it better that I wait? I mean, I'm not as tech-savvy as you guys seem to be, so I doubt my experience would do much for bug fixes...

Most definitely the safer version can be found on the Vault.  Second biggest reason "Plus" is not on the Vault, it's not yet fully tested.

However, I do believe "Plus" does the basics very well.

A couple mini updates.

NWgMax Plus v1.12.08 -- Fixed an issue with the "Plus" Pivot tool not working.

NWMax Plus v1.12.07 -- Fixed an issue with the "Plus" Pivot tool not working.

You'll also find you can now import The Witcher model files.  This section is still a work in progress, but it was easier to leave it in for this update as opposed to removing it.  It works with Max 8, which means it should also work with Max 9 and newer.  However it has not yet been tested on Max 7 and older versions.  At this time, it will not work with gMax.

Thanks for your support,

Hi Michael,

The download link for the gmax version of the tool doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm clicking the title link and getting the message, "We apologize for the inconvenience. The page you are looking for has been removed."

Looking forward to testing this out!

I use the Gmax NWmax tool and wanted to be clear the NWmax version is:

GMax version is still 1.09.27. No recent changes have been made to that version.

This recent fix applies only to 3DSMax and that version is 1.10.07.

To lessen confusion in the future version numbers have been placed in the titles on the download page.

And the download page is for all the work you have done?  If I understand corectly there is GMax and now a GmaxPlus tool right and you have made improvements on the NWMax tool that goes with Gmax thats version 1.09.27 and a improved tool for GmaxPlus NWmaxPlus version 1.120?? right.

I'm a bit blury eyed should get of the PC not following well Forgive me.

Both versions have recently changed.

GMax version is now 1.12.08

3DSMax version is now 1.12.07

And the downloads available from my sight are not all my works alone.  I have certain things hosted that I considered hard to find or need to have available from more than one place.  For those items that are not mine, it will be stated as "Uploaded by: Michael DarkAngel for ???", where "???" is the original author.

to be absolotly clear on your page...

This will not work with NWMax for gMax as they are practically mirror tools and one will cancel out the other. If you autostart NWMax for gMax you will find that the autonwmax.ms file has been overwritten to autostart NWgMax Plus instead. this is version 1.12.08

None of the are for the free discreet gmax program correct? and dont work with the NWMax tool

v1.12.08 is for GMax.

This is the NWMax tool.  It has a few bug fixes that I had found over the years, along with some features from VelTools and ChiliSkinner that I found I was using on a constant basis.  And it has some new code that I have written, hence the "Plus" moniker.

NWgMax "Plus" replaces NWMax for GMax.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

v2.01.25  -->>  Get it here

A very minor fix.  Both NWMax "Plus" and NWgMax "Plus" have been updated to this new version.

Thanks to Old Time Radio for pointing out the issue with the character animation slot dropdown box.

This little fix should allow proper editing of the extra 10 custom looping animations included in 1.69 without having to resort to Notepad.  Thanks MDA!

You really should put this on the Vault. 1. It guarantees that this tool will be available long after you move on to another game, and 2. it makes it a TON easier to find. I could have used this tool a month ago, but never did know it existed since I can't stand the new bioware 'community' boards.

Aside from that, thanks for the tool. :)

Glad to see this being updated :D
Thanks MDA.  Haven't gotten around to installing this yet but it is on the list of things to do.
By any chance have the mass tile export functions been fixed?

Unfortunately, not using Mass Export, I wasn't aware of any problems.

If you can give me a run-down of what the problem is/was, I surely look into it.

Hey Xialya

It's easy

Grab your zipped copy of version 2.01.25, open to your selected subdirectory

Take the "nwmax_plus" directory and place it in the subdirectory called "scripts" within your 3dsmax, and then cut/copy/paste the "autonwmax.ms" script into the Startup directory (also within max). When you launch max, the NWmax/Plus roll out will appear.

If you are using Gmax, be sure to grab the copy of Plus that has the "g" in it's title

I hope this helps....

The thread getting bumped, was a great reminder to check the version I was using... "here" worked for me.
Thank you for the work put into NWgMax "Plus" MDA, looking forward to using some of these new features!

FYI - Using the latest version w/ 3DS Max 2011 on Win 8. Had to set the 3DS Max App to "run as administrator" so that the models would export - was not able to write the sanity file.

Good tip.

I could probably fix this to be more in compliance with the way Windows does things nowadays, but that has the possibility of breaking things for anyone using an older version of 3DSMax.

Nowadays anything not initially installed with the program should be put into the user's "Documents" folder.  NWMax is coded to look in the install directory of 3DSMax for certain things.  The default install directory "C:\\*whatever*" is considered by Win7 and Win8 to be off-limits for casual use.  It's a security issue to allow just anyone to write to the install directory, don't you know. :)

So yes, the workaround is giving 3DSMax admin privileges.  So it may not be pretty, but it does allow one version of the script to work across multiple versions of Windows and 3DSMax.

After spending over an hour tracking down an overlapping line on a walkmesh, I have a request...

Is it possible that if a faulty walkmesh is detected on export that the offending vertices can be highlighted on the model in some manner. That way I can snap a screenshot of the mesh and then use that as a reference when fixing the issue. Right now I'm stuck selecting vertices until I find the right one. Granted, the sanity file lists the coordinates of the vertices, but its still a pain tracking them down on a mesh that has a lot of geometry.

The wok checker tool from Veltools has those features and always worked better than the one in NWmax. I haven't tried NWmax plus yet. If its wok checker is based on the one from NWmax, maybe taking a look at Veltools might be a good idea to improve it.
Veltools only highlights vertices though. If you have double faces, finding them is not so easy. They are listed by number and you need a script to select a certain face by number.
I usually go to the editable mesh, select faces and then execute a script like
setFaceSelection $ #(81)
where 81 is the number of the face I need.
A little tool which would enable a user to enter the number of the face and then select it automatically would be nice.
