The Kestrel Helmet fits Vanguards so well.

it is assumed the helmet bonus is replaced with the corresponding +5% health as well.

It is not assumed, it is proven. I did testing on the 360 using the SENTRY Interface and the N7 Breather Helm. I put each one on, then went to Omega and noted my numbers with each. I then set my helm to the SENTRY Interface and went on a mission where the helm was replaced. When I checked the numbers for health and shields, they matched the numbers I'd previously taken when wearing the N7 Breather Helm on Omega.

I didn't pull that information out of my rear; I actually tested it. You're more than welcome to try for yourself; the results will be the same.

Boosting shields and sprinting speed is significant to builds that like to soak up a lot of damage, particularly those with Tech Armor/GSB/Barrier. and depend on their sprint to close in. Mainly used in unconventional builds and the fact that shields on insanity will hold for a good while when fully upgraded.

On a recent tali loyalty mission, I took the following:

Recon hood
Kestrel Torsoe
Kestrel Shoulders
Stab. Guants
Kestrel legs

Gave me 15% weapons, 19% shields, and 20% melee. Was actually a good combo. Only came upon this because I hate the N7 breather helmet and wanted to make sure I didn't have to use it at all for this mission.

Yes, your helm's bonus is replaced with the crappy N7 helm on airless missions.

So for those missions, it's better to use Recon Hood instead of your normal helm, or switch to one of the one-piece armor sets.

I agree. I hated that helmet when I first saw it but on my vanguard I really like it for some reason. He just looks like a "get right into the action guy" with this helmet and the big shoulders from the strength boost pads.

I go with armor based on looks. Why bother saving the galaxy if you can't be stylen' while you do it!

Seconded.
Anyone else had their Shepard run around in bright GOLD armor?! Image IPB

My engineers regularly sport either gold and red or red and gold suits for the Iron Man look.

Before the, kestrel armor came out, I'd spend a good 20 minutes trying to find a color or colors that worked. Then, it got to the point that I just didn't care. Now that the Kestrel Armour is out, I just change it to black with white accents. YAY!

Did you ever notice how that ammo belt almost looks like Batgirl's Utility belt from the Batman tv show?!!?

I think I've actually spent most game time fiddling with the armour to get a set and colour scheme that works. I suspect I take the roleplay element too far: I mean, do I give a femshep hotpink armour or is that sexist? Do I choose a set that is camouflaged for the environment, considering anything short of cloak is useless in that regard when enemies are either scripted to notice you or in the literary universe of the game likely have sensors anyway? Do I use the recon hood or does that make Shepard look like a futuristic gimp? For the moment I've gone for a default of kestrel in black with white and gold bits to have a Cerberus feel but without having to use the minging official Cerberus armour set. Honestly short of the parts that do a little for shields or add heavy weapon ammo (and assuming anyone bothers to use them)...most of the pieces and sets aren't really worth the effort of thinking about that hard.

Nah, I spent a lot time with colors too. I don't like most of the colors in that they're too cartoony, and the pattern colors don't match. In the end I usually give my femshep either silver or chrome red, and maleship either the dark blue or all-black with grey camo. Is pink sexist? I try to shy away from making my femShep looking like either a barbie doll or chola girl. I like a bit of realism in my fantasy. Wait... this section is about strategy, not RPG, sorry

Damn now I want to do an ultra renegade 'Bad Barbie' Shepard with hotpink armour and hookerish makeup. (I have no idea what a chola girl is. I suspect something analogous to a Chav)

I think I did prefer the armour from the first game though, granted it was annoying to manage all the different sets and you couldn't alter them, but the designs were more varied and with the need for environmental Devlon sets for missions on hostile environments it made different armours more worthwhile. In ME2 it's just: 'Shall I go with the green or the blue...or the red. Or the gold. Aahh, choices. Black. I'll go with the black. With gold trimming? No maybe white...damn.' And the helmet on-off thing was better in ME1. Seems absurd that squadmates are protected from the cold vacuum of space or a hostile environment by what looks like a surgical mask.

Great video!

Love the Iron Man Look.

My engineer is stuck on Horizon and is probably going to stay there until I can figure out how to get him outta there....
