OK so I was just finishing up a Dark Side game and I got to the point where I convinced Bastila to rejoin me at the Ratakan temple. Naturally, I had to kill Juhani and Jolee.

So we get down to the Ebon Hawk and everyone's like "Where's Juhani and Jolee?"

Deciding to play the role of the sneaky Sith, insidiously leading my crew toward the Dark Side, I tell them "They didn't make it."

Then the fool girl decides to come out and be all like "REVAN HAS RECLAIMED HER TRUE IDENTITY!!!"

WTF, Bastila?! I was trying to be sneaky here and you go and spoil it, now I have to kill these people!

Fail.

I like it how...
...The guy refused to properly remove the spoiler even when asked.

...NO moderator seems to visit sections of forums that don't have to do with DA or ME. Drop a pin in DA2 section and you get a few day ban. Meanwhile, forum sections having to do with games that aren't the flavor of the month are pretty much forgotten.

I agree with you although I can't say I totally blame them either. I don't think KotOR gets enough traffic to put a moderator presence on...makes me miss the old boards though.

Poor Bastila. As an intelligent Sith, I think she misses the mark. The only reason why she turned to the dark side (or so it seemed) was that Malak tortured her, showing her the ultimate power she could wield. But if some guy was torturing me, joining him afterwards would be furthest from my mind--perhaps killing him and then turning to the dark side over guilt would work.
I always saw her more of an emotional dark sider--one who chose the path not because of "rational" reasons. Like a child who throws a tantrum when they get fed up or don't understand why they're being told they can't do something. I prefer to think of it that when she saved Revan's life, a bit of his darksidedness leaked into her, slowly corrupting her already tenuous hold on what was true and false.

It didn't help that she had a massive ego due to her Battle Meditation. She's very human, but her inability to realize that she is just as flawed as everyone else is what I think led her to the Darkside. The more she believes she'll never be corrupted, the easier it is to corrupt her. After all, it is always easier to bring down a fortress that thinks its impenetrable than one that knows it isn't.

I still wonder how much torture exactly Malak forced on Bastila for her to turn. She was a devout Jedi and servant of the Light Side (apart from her loin related yearnings for Revan...female Revan in my mind)

I guess people just don't understand how completely the dark side changes you.

Through torture, you embrace fear and hatred. Which are marks of the Dark Side. Which makes you value your own ambitions above others', which leads to the desire and love of power. Which leads to the belief in the effectiveness of a totalitarian regime, which directly contradicts that of the Republic and the Jedi.

Blam! Malak/DarkSide makes sense, and thanks for showing me the light my master.
Also: "" I'm a righteous Dark Side powerhouse "" + surrounded by Republic-aligned ingrates == DIE!

She already had an air of arrogance, it wasn't like she was a pillar of goodness.

But she was never very subtle; honestly, walking around Taris with your lightsaber out? That's just silly.

yeah I always saw the "torture" as being a fail way of convincing someone to join the 'torturer's' cause. I loved the game though so I am able to ignore that pretty well enough.

To me it was obvious that Bastila suffered from pride and arrogance so the torture itself might not have been the primary cause for her turning. It's pretty easy to turn someone with that kind of personality regardless of the fact that they constantly state that they would "never turn to the dark side."

But that's just how I look at it XP I didn't really like Bastila that much because she rubbed me the wrong way with her attitude.

I'm so dissapointed.  I wrote a legitimate and well thought out lore-based explanation as to how torture could turn someone to the darkside, expecting in the back of my mind either praise or critique, and it gets ignored entirely.  It's been seven months and nothing!  I guess KOTOR is just too far past it's prime.  Boohoo for me.

Edit(Dec2):  Thanks to the next post (Hemiriffic), thats all I wanted.
