First, I don't even know if Im posting this in the right section.  Sorry.

Ok, here's the breakdown. I have three ME 1 characters I want to run through ME 2 with. Two paragons and 1 renegade.

Vanguard- Paragon. My very first playthrough where I had to kill wrex. Chose Ashley as the LI.

Solider- Renegade. Saved Wrex, Let the council die, Chose Liara as the LI.

Sentinel- Paragon. This is my 100% completion game. Wrex lives, Chose Ashley as the LI.

Also all three of them chose Anderson to be on the council.

But as I was playing ME 2 with my Renegade shep, and doing lair of the shadow broker, and saw how much Liara has changed since the first game, I decided I want another Paragon character with Liara as a LI. And maybe I could also pick Udina to be on the council to see how that plays out differently.

Now here's where the noob questions come in.
Can I go back to the earlier saves on my Sentinel paragon and pick liara over ashley, Udina over anderson, and have ME 2 recognize that as a completely new character? And keep the all the other quests/choices intact?

If not

If I start a New Game+ with my Sentinel paragon, will the ME 2 import recognize that as a separate character? Even though its really the same one with different choices?

Preferably, I'd like to be able to change the choices on my Sentinel shep, but also be able to keep the 100% completion without having to do all the side-quests again.

Sorry if none of this made sense.:pinched:

The game should be using the most recent save.

But I'm not 100% sure, and would like to know, too.

ME 1 makes an end game save each time you finish, so if you go back to an earlier save, it will save your choices to a different save on completion. So yes a new game plus will let you make different choices, it will recognize the different character completion files.

You can start a NG+ with an existing character, you WILL start at the level of your LAST end game; ie, if you ended @ Lvl 57 then the NG+ will start @ Lvl 57 not level 1.
You have to play the ENTIRE game (NG or NG+) to get a "new set" of decisions. I have 60+ importable ME1 saves when I do a ME2 NG Import (do I remember them all, NOT a chance). If you do a NG+ then the name of your Shepard, gender, background, class, face, etc can not be changed, otherwise everything else is a "blank slate," save/kill who ever, paragon/renegade, romance (Kaidan or Liara FemShep; Ashley or Liara MaleShep), all your dialogue choices, etc.
ps you have to do all the side quests again :crying:
edit:
When you do a NG+ Shepard's talent points are "locked," but the squad mates are NOT and you an arrange them however you like.
To reach level 60 takes TWO play throughs with the same character. To reach all 12 charm/intimidate with OUT using any talent points takes THREE play throughs (you can earn 4 max per play through).

As The Grey Ranger said, Yes.

I did the same thing to pick Liara over Ashely on one of my saves, after completing it, however, read the following:

If you have a save point in the game where you can choose Liara over Ashley, you will still need to finish any side quests and main missions from that point on. (the Anderson/Udina choice is at the end, so yes you can change your choice for that as well)

What this will do is create a 'duplicate' of the original character with the changes you made. You just have to remember which character has your altered choices when you start playing ME2. (best advice - make sure the original one is already loaded into ME2 - the new one should have a more recent date on it)

***** Do Not Read Any Further For Those Who Haven't Played ME2 Yet *****

You can still choose Anderson or Udina at the beginning of ME2 - regardless of who you picked in ME1 (the final end-game save happened before you made your choice - so it was never added to the save file for ME2.)
