If it's a DLC, why are other sources (for PC, MacOS, and Xbox 360, retail box or digital download) not charging full price for it? Wouldn't they have to ask permission from the publisher to lower their prices, just like you're claiming that Sony EU has to?

That is a fantastic point that I have never considered. If Sony have no say, why would EA/BW refuse to offer a discount when they have accross all other platforms? It make no sense. On the surface that would point fault squarely at Sony. However, where Sony are concerned, there are all sorts of politics at play. The last platform i'd ever consider!

It will actually be cheaper to buy the Ultimate edition of DA:O (play.com have it for £17.99) than purchase the Awakenings expansion on PSN. I will be buying the Ultimate edition 2nd hand if possible as I have already spent a lot on other DA:O dlc and do not see the point of paying EA / Bioware twice for dlc content I already own :)

agreed. bet you'll pick it up for about £10-12 christmas week, second hand.  I intend to do the same as I have all dlc, but it's on console. I have just got a new pc last week, and i am looking forward to playing all future purchases on that. Ultimate edition at that sort of price at christmas is a bargain, and the only reason I will buy the products twice

the DLC in EU is only DD on the PS3, all other platforms have a retail disc version as well, which means that the retailers can price accordingly as they do with games. EA have chosen not to lower the price of the DLC for awakenings on the PSN. Sony have no control as to when or if EA decide to drop the price.

The reason they haven't is clear. With only a DD option there is no "disc" version in shops undercutting the DD version like there is on the other platforms. EA are keeping it high as they know the PS3 owners have no other choice, unless they import both the game and expansion from abroad where discs of both are available.

A retail disc has an RRP "Recommended Retail Price" the publisher EA, by UK law cannot enforce the retailer to sell at this price, its a recommendation, hence why the likes of Game/Play/Amazon can charge less if they want to.

With no disc version in shops selling bellow the DD version EA have the market cornered as far as the PS3 is concerned. To keep up with the retail outlets EA have to drop the price of the DD version otherwise they wouldn't sell any.

They make more profit on a DD version than the disc version due to lower overheads etc etc.

While Sony have this rule in place for one or the other EA and others will exploit it for all its worth.

We are 13 days away from release of the UE of Origins and still its £31.99 on the store. We'll see if EA drop the price on the 29th, UK release date.

It's not a DLC; it's an expansion, which is how it's marketed for all version on the Dragon Age website.

Or the PS3 owners refuse to buy any  expansions distribute solely via digital download.

I'll be surprised if the digital download version remains on the EU Playstation Network after the 29th, since most people that haven't bought it due to price will likely get the Ultimate Edition instead.

It certainly does seem that the Ultimate Edition is the way to go for PS3 users. However, I will state again, that unless you obtain this expansion at a bargain price, you will almost definately end up disappointed!

EDIT:- GAME (UK) - Dragon Age Ultimate Edition - Pre Order = £29.99 PS3/XBox360 - £19.99PC

Cant see how the Awakening download can stay on the PSNetwork after the 29th at £31.99? It would certainly take an incredibly daft one to purchase this content in that way!

It's Sony for sure, then, because I doubt EA would be stupid enough to think anyone would spend that much on the expansion when you can get the disc version cheaper.

I'm in Australia, and Awakening on the PS3 has cost $59.99 on PSN Digital Download since it came out, there is no retail disc available. I've been waiting for the cost to (hopefully) drop on it, because it's the only reason I've kept Dragon Age: Origins, and haven't traded in Origins toward any new releases since I bought the game back when it first came out. The people responsible for the pricing of Awakening on the PS3 are jews.

Awakening is a separate "game" from Origins. You can play an Origins character at the same time as an Awakening character and they are entirely separate, even if they were based on the same character. Once you import your character from Origins into Awakening, you've essentially created a second character entry with all the same stats and abilities as the first character, and that second character branches off on its own path leaving the original untouched.
