heyas;

  i had no clue what i was doing, so i followed some instructions on selecting an exportable area and turning on sunlight.  i wanted the sunlight to shine straight down, but apparently, it only shines from a compass direction.  now, i'm creating a cave with the terrain editor and a lot of stone walls.  and the sunlight is causing the ceiling and south wall to be very dark.

   i added an ambient light to the scene, but that did nothing to lighten up the sun-shadowed areas.  i really want to get rid of those.  is there any way?  i didn't see a sunlight shadow-intensity control :/   i kinda want the cave to be dark, but not pitch black -- like most of the caves in the game.

most caves in-game use an indoor level. If you are in the early stages, I would suggest you too adopt an indoor level since it allows for the advantages of having rooms (resources can be saved by not showing rooms which cannot be seen). Of course, this means no terrain - you have to build out of the rock props.

however, to answer your original question: have you tried changing the sunlight colour to black? I would think that would do it. Then rely on your ambient light to prevent the entire level being extremely dark. From there, add your static and baked lights.
