So yeah I just now saw it the "What do we really know" thread. The Dalish have Welsh accent's now... What's everyone opinion on this?

I'm not quite so sure about how I feel about it yet. The Dalish always reminded me of Native Americans so I always felt the American, or rather the lack of an unique accent, suited them... I thought it was symbolic of their lost culture
Ehh...

Seeing as Tolkien based his Elven language on Welsh and the Elven in DA is probably derived from that, it makes complete sense that the Elves should speak in a Welsh accent.

I thought Tolkien based his elven language on Finnish?

At any rate, there's a range of Welsh accents right from those found in Cornwall to those found in rural parts that some folks like to make fun of. We're not going for anything comedic, so there's no need to panic. Unless you enjoy panicking, of course. Then by all means, panic.

Isn't it Quenya = Finnish / Sindarin = Welsh?

Or the reverse?

Or something totally different?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I actually cared. Posted Image

Oh man ... you rile the Tolkien fandom, you rile some detail-oriented, persistent people with lots of time on their hands.

Considering what they normally spend their time on, I figure any fuming on their part would at the very least have to be more interesting than the Silmarillion.

It's not about how simple it is. I love Tolkien, but that book is drier than a desert onion.

That said, this topic's gone waaay off the tracks. My fault in part-- thank you, I'll be here all week!

Nevertheless, it's gone and there's no getting it back. Call me a troll with lockdown powers if you wish, but...
