I think this is great. Anyone see Torchwood? Abundance of Welsh accents right there... Anthony Hopkins, Richard Burton...

My hubby. Oh I love them.... I speak horrible estuary English....

It seems fitting that they have Welsh accents though I'm unsure where that leaves city elves, shouldn't there accent be that of whoever they're with i.e like fereldan city elves would have english accents while city elves from oralis would have a french accent and so on.

Guess that's too differentiate?

City elves would speak with a slightly softer sing song entonation.... Like my  husband who is originally from the valleys but has been living in south England for 20+ years...

Tom Jones steps up to the plate, one two three "It's not unusual to see the blight, the grey wardens fight".

The only Welsh accent I've been exposed to is from the people on Torchwood, lol. The ones on TV sound nice though, I've heard people refer to it as "sing-songy".

Indeed, in Red Dead Redemption John Marston even refers to a Welsh character as having a "sing-song voice"

To all the people asking what a Welsh accent sounds like, there's this:

Wow... that's actually very irritating. Anything from someone who isn't a comedian?

It's hard to search for on YouTube since it mostly returns people trying out a Welsh accent or whatever. But here's Ioan Gruffudd (another Welshman) speaking normally on CraigyFerg's show.

That's actually pretty cool. Not sure if I can see on the elves yet but I wouldn't mind hearing it in DA.

I'm not very familiar with Welsh accents, but if they do have that "sing-song" quality you guys mentioned, I'd be quite interested in hearing the Dalish speak with the accent. Plus, my main Warden is a Dalish...

EDIT:

Oh, so that's a Welsh accent? Sounds nice. It'll give the Dalish some more distinction.

Im against this, it goes against the lore. Why change it all of a sudden?

They better have a damn good reason, like there a different race of dalish or something.

How does it go against lore?  As we've already said, the books establish the Dalish having accents as lore.  It goes a bit against what they've already done but that seemed to be a development limitation rather than a lore problem i.e. they couldn't find voice actors to do it.  It makes complete sense for the Dalish to have an accent since they don't speak the King's tongue on a regular basis, they speak the Dalish tongue.  It also doesn't make sense for the Dalish to sound like the city elves since they have been living apart for centuries.

In any case, the clans live apart from each other in other lands for the most part anyways.  So it shouldn't even be that immersion breaking because the Mahariel clan and Lanaya/Zathrian's clan might be more accentless than whatever Dalish we encounter in the future just due to the fact that they live largely in Ferelden rather than in the Free Marches or something.

Every sentence must include 'boyo' and 'valleys' to make it an accurate portrayal.

Considering how long they have lived separately, I highly doubt the city elves would have any sort of accent other than that of where they're from (like, separated long enough for them to start thinking the Dalish are a myth). Which is why I find it absolutely baffling that they have accents so vastly different than the humans that live around them. I'd picture it as a variation of an English accent, not an outright American one. I'm no linguist, though.

God damn I hate the valley stereotypes, from a city in Wales and a valley in Wales the difference in accents from the city goers is a big difference. Just count yourself lucky they are not making them speak the actual Welsh language. xD

There's only two things in the world I can't stand. People who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch (hopefully someone will recognize that).

Also I'm Dutch and...No Dutch accents please!

Hey, could you please say you can't stand our accents instead of us!
I agree with you though, Dutch as a language I don't particulary hate, but the accents most of my friend/family use when trying to talk English......OMG

ps:  I'm very proud to say that I'm almost accentless, yay for me!!!!
psps: @ outlaworacle, really, only two things, what about things like....Twilight, mosquitos, and JustinPosted ImageBieber

I can see it now:

"Quick Hawke, the Qunari are attacking! Take your people and defend Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch or all is lost!"

I'm not picking up on the nuances between the Welsh accent and other generically "British sounding" accents from the provided videos, unfortunately.

I rather hope they are using some Welsh VA's, it's quite a hard accent to pull off.

Major kudos if you didn't copy and paste that.

Also, Welsh is a great choice as a rural elven language. I've always considered welsh to be one of the closest modern languages to fantasy elven. Plus, it's even (sometimes) sexy!
