I've always considered welsh to be one of the closest modern languages to fantasy elven. Plus, it's even (sometimes) sexy!

But it's not really modern.

Having actual Cymraeg or Cornish (similar to welsh far less speakers though) spoken in game would be pretty awesome. If heavy on l's which don't sound like l's.

I am probably going to struggle to take the dalish seriously, but then I just have that valleys stereotype in my head when thinking of the welsh. Ahh, the welsh... where it the grass is green and the sheep are scared.

I gave up halfway trying to sound that out.

It looks complex, but it is pronounced "New York".

Heh, never watch Gavin and Stacey prior to playing DA2. It will ruin the immersion!

I very much doubt that there will be exaggerated comedy welshies popping up randomly during serious moments.

Like all accents, there are degrees.

Well u never know? In ME2 they used Loghain and morrigans voices again, so if DA2 is totally new, then they could have slacked on the budget on the actors meaning we'll have dodgy accents in a time of desperation, and when they try to be serious, we will just be laughing our butts off :P

Seeing as Tolkien based his Elven language on Welsh and the Elven in DA is probably derived from that, it makes complete sense that the Elves should speak in a Welsh accent.

Happy to hear this, I have some Welsh ancestry myself and agree with those pleased to see it in the game. To be honest the Dalish accents in DAO were jarring at times, just didn't always seem to fit to me. Now they just need to make someone speak Cornish!

There's only two things in the world I can't stand. People who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch (hopefully someone will recognize that).

Also I'm Dutch and...No Dutch accents please!

Hey, could you please say you can't stand our accents instead of us!
I agree with you though, Dutch as a language I don't particulary hate, but the accents most of my friend/family use when trying to talk English......OMG

ps:  I'm very proud to say that I'm almost accentless, yay for me!!!!
psps: @ outlaworacle, really, only two things, what about things like....Twilight, mosquitos, and JustinPosted ImageBieber

I thought Tolkien based his elven language on Finnish?

At any rate, there's a range of Welsh accents right from those found in Cornwall to those found in rural parts that some folks like to make fun of. We're not going for anything comedic, so there's no need to panic. Unless you enjoy panicking, of course. Then by all means, panic.

High elvish was based on finnish, Sindarin was based on welsh.

Indeed, I think he based his Elven languages on both Welsh and Finnish.

Did you derive your Elven from Tolkien's? If not how did you come up with it?

High elvish was based on finnish, Sindarin was based on welsh.

I think I read that one of the elvish languages had 20-25 cases or something.....that might explain why.

Sounds good to me. As Sandtigress said, I always pictured my DEs having an accent, as described in TST.

Welsh accent in Cornwall? David, I am sorry to tell you that Cornwall is not part of Wales. They don't have Welsh accents there. They have Cornish accents. Sounds like a pasty. They used to have their own language and everything.

Enter Nessa Hawke, stage left, wearing a PVC minidress.
Varric: Ooh Nessa, you look fabulous.
Nessa sucks a Benson and Hedges heavily and looks around, deadpan. Nessa Hawke: I feel it. Proper tidy, that is.

Wait, what? Cornwall is well and truely in England though if I remember rightly the duchy of cornwall is still recognised and as such could be classed as an independant state, but meh.

s'ok, ya'll look alike.

lolcornwall.

My sister is in Devon. The "jokes" of "ooh going to Cornwall have you got your passport they're a bit funny there," is normal.

Which is rich coming from someone from Devon, obviously.

The Dalish having Welsh accents would be great. I loved seeing so many Welsh character names in DAO and welsh words used like teyrn.
