Well, they are both shield heavy level oriented, so my guess is it would have to be a class that is self reliant against both armor and barriers since they won't be helping much in that department.

Vanguard, because it awesome. Shotguns will take care of barriers in no time, and they have Inferno ammo for armor.

BTW aren't u the dude with all the answers usually?

I would say adept.

Seconding Vanguard; those two are also pretty damn squishy, so you'll need a class that can both draw fire from them and live to tell about it.

Soldier with Warp Ammo can also work well.

Might have to make another soldier run, this would be like the canon run I suppose. A Sheploo soldier using Tali and Garrus as often as possible.

LOL. No love for the Sheploo? Hell I can't believe it's taken me this long to do this, I did Dragon Age Sacred Ashes trailer playthrough I think only the second or third time playing through the game. This will be playthrough lost count and it's the first time I'm bothering with it. Maybe I'll do something absurd and limit myself to the missile launcher as heavy weapon and avenger as primary, lol. Though that's not really the same thing as going sword and board in DA: O.

I pretty much play with that team 90% of the time and I have done fine as an infiltrator, vanguard, engineer, and adept. It's more about how you level everybody.

Adept, Infiltrator, vanguard.

But you should challenge yourself and go engineer. Especially since that's the most wrong choice for that squad setup.

Blue suns and geth missions would be absolute cake on an engineer with that set up though. Two drones and a mess of aoe overloads would result in a whole lot of popsicles and well done mercs.

Just finished an Insanity adept playthrough with exactly this group. So I dunno about best but the adept certainly worked. Garrus provided Squad AP ammo and Area Overload, Tali had her Drone for distraction and some AoE, where Sheps sort of mixed all over, taking down health mobs with biotics, using Singularity and Stasis for crowd control where needed, and adding to the anti-barrier/shield with Warp.

But really, I can imagine any class working with these two. Garrus singlehandedly provides anti-shield and anti-armor methods with the Overload + AP ammo combo so anything you build around that is an afterthought.

Adept

whether Barrier or Stasis, Shotgun or Mattock, whatever.

Sure... but what about everything else? It'll be more of a challenge for 75% of the game. Who runs with an all engineer squad these days? No one.

I wont. It comes in as my least liked class. I'd rather do soldier and I really dislike soldier.

So, go engineer and tell yourself you're doing it for the reduction in research costs

i say vanguard. it's nearly perfect.

see enemy group > garrus AoE overload > tali drone > charge in, clean up

overload means 1-shotting enemies, drone in the mix means you don't die nearly as fast from massed close-range fire.

I don't think you're giving Garrus enough credit. He can actually deal with all forms of defense pretty well. Concussive Shot's fully evolved forms do 262 or 350 damage to Barriers, depending on which version you choose. Overload takes care of Shields. And AP Ammo covers Armor and Health if Shepard doesn't have Incendiary Ammo. Combine that with his ability to use Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles, and you've got a solid squad-member

Now, I have heard that Garrus tends to die a lot. To counter this, you'll probably want to waypoint him near the back with his Sniper Rifle. I recommend either the Mantis (to keep him alive longer) or the Incisor (for increased damage). Final choice is yours.

As fot Tali, she's pretty bad. The only good powers she has are Combat Drone and Energy Drain, and Combat Drone's cool-down is prohibitively long. Her weapon selection is also rather poor (she's not tough enough to get close enough for her Shotgun to be effective, so all she has is a pistol).

The only major issue I see (besides Tali, of course) is that Garrus is trying to do too much. I would choose a class that can deal with Barriers at least to take some of the load off of him. Any class that has Warp would be great for that.

The problem with AP ammo is that a) it's his loyalty talent and I never play NG+ which means it doesn't become squad AP ammo until late B) Tali is in the same boat with energy drain and her later recruitment makes it worse so area overload would take priority over concussive shot c) I never put much stock in squad weapon damage because even on adepts and engineers you wind up doing 90% of the weapon damage any way and lastly d) being single target I think you're better off simply shooting barriers off yourself and using CS as an emergency knock down.

So at the end of the day, I appreciate the feedback but I disagree. Though I suppose you'd be right about armor late game since your own damage vs armor would be boosted.

tali is hardly useless with the GPS. on vanilla-game insanity with one of the shorter range shotties, she dies FAST. but the GPS changed that, and i'm glad it did.

There are tons of good choices IMHO ....

-- Vanguard takes the heat off of them ...

-- A Widow Soldier could have everyone set up at long distance and dare people to come closer

-- An Engineer could be workable with heavy drone support

I don't see why sentinel wouldn't work...

- Tech armor for CC and tanking to draw fire from the squishies
- Tali overloading stuff on shield missions, droning on non-shield missions + GPS
- Garrus as sniper support and damage dealer with passive and Squad AP priorities
- Warp for anti-armor and anti-barrier (and squad AP)
- Add in a bonus power like neural shock for some serious CC and you've got a killer. Switch to energy drain for geth missions, ooh baby
- Shotgun training + GPS

All bases covered: shields, armor, barriers, CC, survivability. Barriers probably the weakest to deal with, but then again, they're least frequently encountered.

I'd say Adept could work here. I'm running through the game with an Adept, Garrus and Grunt. I'm not really using any abilties on Grunt except for the very rare concussion. I just recently put Squad Incendiary on him after getting through half the game. Forgot how good Incendiary was :P.

Area Overload, Singularity and Warp is a beautiful combo. I'm also liking Stasis for the occasional guy that rushes me. I don't abuse the bug though.
