I'm sure this has been tackled befiore, but on a second playthrough with the same shepard, can you pick a different love interest?  Also, along with this question, i was wondering:  I've been showing much interest in both Liara as well as Kaiden  (I'm FemShep currently,) and now it seems after an intimate convo with kaiden, my only options with liara when she asks me of the nature of the relationship w/ Alenko are 4 different ways of saying "I'm taken."  I want the scene where they fight over me!  So, if I don't do that relationship-ending convo w/ Liara will  I get the "decision" scene or not?  Thanks!

1) Yes, you can pick a new LI, no decisions are carried over on a NG+.

2) As i remember there is a option to say "Alenko and i are only friends", which should keep Liara interested without ending the Kaidan romance, thus leading to the "fight". I think you need to do this dialogue, because it's the first time Liara actually expresses interest in you.

Nitpick 1: one decision is carried over (your weapon choice on the Collector ship) and can never again be changed.

Nitpick 2: She specifically expresses interest well before the fight scene.

Shepard: You were telling me about your interest in the Protheans?
Liara: Actually Commander, I believe I was speaking of my interest in you... and making a fool of myself in the process.

Additionally, I am now wondering: If I want, say Miranda as my love interest in ME2, do i need to not have a love interest in this game, or what?

No, you can still have a LI in ME1.

Are you sure that you and the person you're replying to are speaking of the same game?

I tried to do this during NG+ #2 and I ended up with Kaiden only. i never got the"we are just friends choice"; so I killed him off on Virmire. I am doing NG+ #3 and would like to see this competition scene. How far should I string Kaiden along and when do i get that conversation with Liara? I went to Therum and have gotten her first; so far, all she wants to talk about are her mother and the Asari.

I mainly got her 1st for the Squadmate Acheivement.

I got Liara last and started getting romance dialogue with her almost right away, so by the time you get to Virmire you and Liara should be in a relationship. As far as how far to string them along, you can start a full relationship with both of them, Kaiden mentions that rumors are that you have feelings for Liara, but you can lie and tell him that your relationship is strictly professional and continue to pursue both. I believe the confrontation scene happens around the time you're going back to the Citadel. You're then told you have to make a choice. If you choose that you want to be with both of them Kaiden will get angry and storm off and you'll automatically end up with Liara.

Thanx, Fidget; I am going to try that and save more than in game #2.
