Seriously? Katanas weigh more than 10 pounds. Are you just being stubborn now? You clearly have no idea what your talking about

I have posted a source that is non wiki because you guys are too stuborn to actually read..  Swords were not that heavy..   and no a Katana weighs far less..

if u like this much detail you should probably go play morrowind or oblivion unless there is an unrealistic animation & weight in that game which i'm sure you'd complain about as well b/c as i recall claymores weigh about 80lbs in oblivion or up to 80lbs. THis is Ferelden not earth. Let me give u a problem solving example. i felt cheated that I wasn't warned if i build up my strength & pick up Blood Dragon Armor at lv8 early on it would be the best armor in game til finish due to tier & stat bonuses so guess what i did i mentioned it on here when asked my opinion but i also sold it & decided not to use it so i wasn't running around w the same armor for 10 levels! it was so super easy. i'm done wasting my time typing to someone who seems impossible to please. I think I'll go swing a 2h for fun!!!! haha 30lb claymores!!!! who cares!! oh yeha don't do it!!!

The Zweihänder could be up to 180 cm (6 ft) long from the base of the pommel to the tip of the blade, with a 120–150 cm (4–5 ft) blade and 30–45 cm (1–1½ ft) hilt. The weight could range between 2 kg and 3.2 kg (4½–7 lb). However, a ceremonial Zweihänder, which was unsuitable for combat, could weigh up to 7 kg (16 lb).

Some were shorter, though. Earlier versions, in particular, often had an overall length of about 150 cm (5 ft), weighing as little as 1½ kg (3 lb 5 oz).

Lol jesus bro, I'll tell you what happened.

You saw that the 2h animation was slow. Got angry because every game does this, you specced 2h and are now afraid you won't "omgwtfpwnt" everything.

You "researched" it and are now complaining after never picking up anything near a real sword. Maybe a replica or a furniture mantle but not real.

Sorry for telling the truth but you suck ^^

...  Actually I have yet to try two handers on my main character, I just watch Sten go besides him doing alot of damage.. Its a eye sore watching him swinging the sword around like a lumber jack felling a tree..   I don't understand why people are attacking me on this when most would agree that the animation is extremely bland..

You sir, have no idea what you're talking about. swords generally weighed 10 lbs at the LIGHTEST. the heaviest sword in record that was used by infantry in battle was 28 1/4 lbs. You should learn a thing or two before you troll like a retard. kthx.

personally I like the animations..that being said...

actually you are the one that doesn't know what they're talking about.  Do a search and get the facts..out of curiousity I did..and I found he's right...you're wrong..average Claymore weighed in at 5.5lbs...etc...

do some research before you say someone doesn't know what they're talking about..it only makes YOU look stupid.

Impossible to please? All I am saying is make the animation look alittle better.. People seem to be under the false impression that all swords realistically that size are immensely heavy, when infact they arn't.. All I am saying is could they liven up the animiation alittle bit instead of being completely bland compared to the other two?

People love believing myths because they like the idea that a guy with no armour and daggers is superior. This sword wieght myth comes from the same idea that armour is insanely heavy and makes it impossible to do anything in.

wow there is a lot of morons in this thread, basically all of them believing twohanded swords weighed more than 2-3kg. the animation for twohanded sword fights are indeed quite silly, but I doubt they will be changed

"Popular media, fantasy games, and uninformed historians frequently give the impression that these immense weapons were awkward, unwieldy and ponderously heavy. The facts confirm an entirely different understanding. "

to all the kids in the thread, try actually reading and do some researching

Maybe i should just laugh about this stuff and forget it, but i have to say... seriously??? I own a few swords and depending on what they are suppose to be made of in the game, I guess they could be heavy or not. I nice steel katana or two hand tai chi sword only weigh a few lbs at most. They are not iron or cast. I have a few staves that are far heavier than swords, even a simple hardwood stave weighs much more than a rapier or cutlas. Just my input... not trying to push anyone's buttons here.

Its pretty easy to find out wikipedia if you want, with links to reliable sites.. No one could wield a sword that was more than 30 lbs for a fight for long with out being unbalanced or tiring.. It just didn't happen..

I just did a quick google search & out of 12 swords mostly replicas the lightest was 7lbs so I would have to say you're very wrong. As some1 said before if the animations bother u that much just don't play a 2h. but 7-22lbs is what i found so thats kind of a huge difference for something you'll be carrying with you & swining at another person while wearing heavy ass armor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymore

http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Zweihänder

http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Battle_axe

No they did not..  You were looking at ceremonial swords than the ones that go beyond 15lbs.. And seriously stop saying "than don't play 2handers".. Yeah clearly that would solve the fact that it looks like garbage.

And they don't need to speed up damage speed.. They pulled it off by making lightsabres look fast in KOTOR yet even when they hit they didn't always neccesarly act like a real hit for damage sake.

It's worth mentioninig that the 2-handed swords seen in most fantasy games, Dragon Age included, share a greater visual affinity with those "ceremonial blades" in terms of size and apparent weight than they resemble the relatively thin, narrow blades cited in the articles you're linking to. So realistically, the animations should still be slow.

You actual complaint should be about the unrealistically huge 2-handed swords in the game, not the animation (which is appropriate for blades of the sizes shown in the game, which are unrealistically huge).

Why do people get so angry about others trying to improve the game? I don't understand. There's a feature which could be better yet you insult people for it? Are people that afraid of their favourite games flaws being pointed out?

I actually went through the trouble of reading this whole thread. Skemte is absolutely right about the weight of swords. The power of a strike does not come from the weight of the blade and the way you chop wood is definitely not the way you use a sword. If you've ever seen people practicing kendo, you'll see that the strikes are actually done with a very small movement of the arms, using mostly leverage (?) to make a powerful strike. When you already wear a full plate armor that more or less (read: more) hampers your movement and flexibility, you're definitely not going to swing around a 15kg blade. A sword has to be light in order for you to actually be able to move it around.

That said, the animation doesn't bother me that much, I'm accustomed to fantasy zweihanders weighing more than any normal person could lift, let alone swing.

From what I gather from sword practice the majority of the power behind a strike is from the hips and body movement rather than the arms.

Just a heads up as well, using a shield is far more tiring than using a sword.

haha its all a matter of opinion. I love DA:O just the way it is aside from the Blood Dragon Armor which isn't a big deal at all. i personally can't see much wrong with the game that is worth mention. I think most ppl just like 1 complaing & 2 attention hence many many forum posts oh & conflict!!!

psst I for one like number 3...i enjoy annoying ppl i find stupid or annoying...it makes my heart so happy!!!
