Yes, Bioware could patch every bug in the game, but the console manufacturers won't allow it on their platforms. Why? Developing and distributing patches does not earn them any profit. Better to spend the resources on the next Call of Duty or Halo expansion.

Oh, that must be why DICE has released over a GIG of additional textures, vehicles, and other multiplayer upgrades for Battlefield BC2. Yup that's right, no cost. Microsoft and Sony sure shut them down didn't they. Please....

Zy-El wrote...

There are also technical limitations as to how much a patch for consoles can contain. The packet size for consoles limits how much can be put into each patch and each patch release costs a certain fixed amount. It all boils down to keeping down costs and maximizing profit.

Correct, however Bioware COULD choose to release the patch as free DLC. Despites your uninformed statement above, there is nothing preventing them from doing so...except themselves.

Sigrun's personal quest - I can't find Mischa anywhere. -_-;

Oghren - I got his approval high enough, gave him the plot item, was nice to him, finished his personal quest and... i still don't have friendly status with him

Optional - please consider putting out another tier 9 longsword... :P

I'll wait until the next patch before I restart awakening... I'm a perfectionist and I love the DA story enough to want it the perfect experience. :P

I know you're trying to be sarcastic, but I don't understand your line of reasoning here.  Please help me to understand.

I'm not familiar with Battlefield BC2 or DICE.  From your comment, I take it that DICE released an expansion of textures, vehicles and other goodies for Battlefield BC2 at no cost to the players.  Am I to understand that this game is also available on PC as well as Xbox and PS3?  So, this makes my point actually.  If DICE released this expansion for free to the PC, Microsoft and Sony would have to also offer it for free on their platforms otherwise, their players would rightfully raise a major stink about the PC players having a distinct advantage.

Because DICE produced this expansion for PC's for free, Microsoft and Sony were in the uncomfortable (and unprofitable) position of having to distribute the same for their platforms.  The big boys have learned from this lesson.  Bioware is not permitted to make any patches for PC's without consent of the console makers.  Furthermore, they have a say as to what goes into the patch.

Am I wrong on this line of reasoning?

In other words, the PC HAS a distinct advantage, it's just legally barred from using it.

*SPOILER For NPC Location*

I find Mischa initially just beyond the Sgt of the Guard (ie; Crime Wave NPC) while going towards the Chantry. Later she can be located within the Inn across from the Chantry.

I have not had any problems with this quest after the last patch.

As for Oghren, I cannot seem to find enough liquid gifts for him, so I will be importing brews from DAO. This is not any more of a problem for me than already coming in with runes and a diamond in hand to bypass scavenger hunts.

The PC platform has always had a distinct advantage over closed gaming consoles.

The PC is programmable by players who know how to create mods.  In fact, modders have fixed more bugs than Bioware will ever fix.  Modders have also added more content than any DLC produced by Bioware.  Alas, there's only so much you can do without the source code and modders are limited to producing add-ons for the Origins game; they cannot create new material for Awakenings or anything based on the DLC.

Not true; while we can't fix some of the issues with Awakening without it, we don't need the source to add content to it.

Is it hard to add new content to Awakening?

I've noticed that most new gear added by modders only works in the Origins game and does not transfer to Awakening or the followup DLC.

Has any modder added new locations to the Awakening map?  I'd love to have other places to go with the Awakening companions.

Items, if designed properly, should transfer without problems, but a lot of modders don't do that. I've actually stated that on multiple occasions, but it doesn't seem to have sunk in.

As for adding new locations, I'm working on dealing with adding areas to the map of the arling; it's probably as easy as doing it for Origins, but most people believe that we "need" those resources and haven't done anything to figure it out themselves.

Edit: Eureka! I've got the empty map appearing in the toolset. :wizard:

It went down... again :(

Particulary the crashes are something that must be fixed. It can't be that BioWare ignores this. Every other game runs fine except for Dragon Age. And that's after one year of its release. Isn't there something wrong here??

Strange. I've played DA:O since its release and it has crashed only one or two times during all that playing.

I was playing DA:O fine until just recently, I ran into a spate of crashes.  I too have been playing DA:O for a long time (about 9 months now) with all the DLC working fine.  However, my PC which is 5 years old started crashing after 20 minutes of playing DA:O - specifically, the monitor display would turn off but my computer would continue to run.  What the *#(@@&??

I quickly realized that it must have been something to do with my PC's video card.  I searched the forum for any bugs to do with video displays and discovered that a lot of players were having problems with overheating video cards.  I guess DA:O is very demanding.  Their solution was simple - CLEAN YOUR PC AND VIDEO CARD.

So, I got a can of compressed air, opened up my PC and cleaned out the dust-filled interior of the case.  I then pulled out the video card and blasted it all around with compressed air.  Be warned - do this cleaning outside as a lot of dust will go flying everywhere.  My video card was literally caked with dust.  No wonder it was overheating after only 20 minutes of playing DA:O.

I put it all back together and started DA:O.  And I was able to play continuously over several hours without a single crash.  The video display looked better and I was able to crank up the settings.  Miraculously, my print screen capture was working again!!!  I guess it was about a month ago that my screen capture was not working - probably because of the overheating video card.  Bottomline:  CLEAN YOUR PC AND VIDEO CARD.    Image IPB

It's unbelievable. Every question remains unanswered by the devs for months now regarding patch 1.05 (1.04 was released in July this year). There are so many broken things (crashes, Awakening!, maybe DLC fixes?!?!?, talents broken/overpowered, quest bugs, etc.) and we don't even get a "when it's done". I'm planning to buy DAOUE for christmas, however, I would be _far happier_ if there's a new patch coming out before the 2nd half of december. Any chance that there will be a patch, Devs?

I appreciate that you're trying to help, and that this is always good advice. Seriously. I'm pretty sure this is why my previous graphics card died.

But it doesn't explain why Dragon Age crashes for me. I NEVER get through Lothering without crashing at least once, but other areas I have no problems with. I also crash a lot when using certain spells such as Mana Clash. But I almost never crash if I don't use those spells.

This is obviously not an overheating issue.

I obviously also made sure I had the newest drivers and so on. It's NOT a problem on my end, this is a Dragon Age problem.

I've been playing games for over 20 years now, and to me it's quite obvious what's going on. Game doesn't work? Suggest a problem on the user's end and perhaps advise the user to defragment their hard drive or jump up and down for 20 minutes. Remember, it's never the GAME that has a problem. It's always the user's fault.

I've got a multicore system and quinns fixpack, and that solved about 95% of what few crashes I had.  However I did use Explore Suite to allow the game to use more virtual ram and that fixed the rest.  Now I can play for hours and not crash.

Thing is, in the vast majority of cases, it tuns out that it is.

Having said that, it's certainly not true of all users. I know many people run a clean machine and a tight ship, and I'm one of them. DA:O is the only game in some time that I've played that regulalry crashed on me. For me it was always in Denerim. As well, it often would absolutely refuse to load a save in Denerim sometimes. I could solve that easily enough by loading a different save altogether, then exiting and loading the Denerim save. A minor pain, but certainly not game-breaking. But there's definitely something that can be fixed with regards to stability. I'd love to see a 1.05 patch as well that addresses these things as well as a number of the other left over bugs.

Believe me, I know. I have quite a bit of programming experience. If your program can be broken even under the strangest of circumstances, someone will do it by accident within the first minute of using it.

Still, if you buy a new TV and it doesn't work, you can get a replacement or a refund. If you buy a game and it doesn't work, even if it's not your fault, there isn't always anything you can do about it.

Not that I would want my money back for Dragon Age. But some bug fixes would be nice. I know the sequel is on its way, but that's doesn't mean people will stop playing Origins entirely.
