Awesome stuff, though I still own disc copies that work fine. GOG is great as they tweak the files to run on modern Windows and there is no DRM, unlike Steam. Wish I could support their relaunch by buying these, but like I said I already own them. Maybe I will buy something else.

Remember to backup anything you buy there just like iTunes and then it is yours FOREVER!

Can anyone confirm whether the GOG version works with mods yet? (Obviously not Tutu, that'll have to wait until BG2 gets released as well.)

It should. I know other games I've bought there have without issues.

It was confirmed that Widescreen Mod won't work. Most WeiDU mods that add content only should work without problem.

Can anyone confirm they fixed the problem with modern video cards with this release?

What kind of problem?  I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary yet.

It apparently works okay with the disc version of BG2 in regards to using tutu, though you will still have to use your BG2 CD whenever you want to play it then. Widescreen mod was apparently not working but has now had a GoG-compatible version released as announced on the second page of this thread:

There may be issues with the other mods but if the modders work as quick as they did with the widescreen mod I doubt it will be an issue. :D

Erich,

There was an issue with direct Draw and modern video cards, which caused Black boxes to show up in the game. I have experienced this on my XP machine with Nvidia 9800GS. I keep a 98 box with a Geforce 2 video card around for the infinity engine games because of this. If they truely fixed this problem this is great news. I would hate to purchase this though, and it essently be the same executables I already have on CD.

Apparently Nvidia's latest beta drivers fixed this issue, as well as couple other problems with older games.
If not, there is a workaround to be find at SHS forums.

Just wanted to say that another wonderful old Black Isle game is now also available at GOG. As of today Planescape: Torment can be downloaded at GOG. Which - incidentally - is the best game ever imo.:).

I may look into this one. My PST discs are in near perfect condition for the most part, but playing without them would be nice. Awesome addition either way. I'll have to spread the word elsewhere.

Icewind Dale today. I'm betting BG2, being likely the most popular, will be the last of their 7 announced releases.

Just noticed this, of course only two weeks after buying the 4in1 box set of Baldur's Gate because of the DVD convenience, oh well.

Maybe I'll give Planescape: Torment a shot when I'm done with my Sorcerer. Lots of old goodies there, seems like a pretty neat site.

I haven't seen the 7 announced releases. Naivelly, I'd expect BGI,PS:T,ICWD (ok that's old news), ICWDII, BGII(+ToB), ToEE.

Are these 6 games part of the "7" games? which is the 7th? A link would be appreciated :)

They haven't told us what they are. When they re-opened the site they just said there would be 7 Atari/Hasbro games upcoming. For what it's worth I think you've nailed 6 of them. Not sure what the last will be.

I think the most popular guesses for the seventh are currently Neverwinter Nights, Rollercoaster Tycoon (I have no idea why, but it seems popular), Magic The Gathering computer game, or possibly one of the old SSI games.

I wonder if the seventh will be a compilation of all the old SSI games?  I do remember them selling (and me buying) a compilation of all the D&D SSI games...

ah ok thanks, me hopes 7th game is NWN2 but considering it's a new game, I find it very unlikely to happen. 2nd best option would be a pack of gold-box games.

Do you mean Forgotten Realms Archives by any change? It'd make one interesting release. While the games included prolly require nostalgy boost to be enjoyable,it'd come with impressive documentation.  Atleast the physical release came with what can only be called a geek bible; this huge motherload of manuals containing some 300 pages worth of maps, journal entries and whatnots.

Temple of Elemental Evil is also sold by GoG now. I'm still curious what the 7th game will be, maybe NWN, maybe Gold Box games (I'd like to see NWN2 but that's just wishful thinking).

Not an expert on PC games, but aren't there other ways to play the old IE games on newer computers -- without having to go through GoG?

I've read posts mentioning Dosbox and other such things, etc etc. My current desktop runs BG1&2/IWD/everything else fine, as it's 5 years old, but I wonder about this for when I do pick up a new PC.

You're actually right, however you can consider it as part of the hype that builds up and is likely to end with Baldur's Gate II. ToEE was just a step in the countdown ;)
