I just grabbed the evidence against Mae'var from that chest, and along with it I got an unassuming +2 hammer. Thinking nothing of it, I picked it up, preparing to dump it on someone to hold until I could sell it. Lo and behold, a garish pink outline appeared. I put it down. I picked it up. I put it down again.
This is obviously caused by the SCS2 item randomiser, my question is, can you normally get this item in the game? Secondly, if you had it in your inventory, would Bruennor react to it?
Bruenor's hammer?

Never found that one. In Drizzt's Saga and Region of Terror, Bruenor is wielding an axe, not a hammer, iirc.

Hm, OK by Bruenor I mean one of Drzzt's companions who isn't Cattie Brie. So probably Wulfgar then. I'm afraid I know nothing about Drizzt that can't be learnt in BG1 & 2. It all comes from not owning funny shaped dice I think, although I freely admit the attraction is strong ...

Borok Thundercracker was a dwarven hero that led several campaigns against giants and other "tall vermin" that had plagued his people in a number of their communities. This hammer was his blessed weapon, which his elven allies called his "little iron fist", though not to his face.
Even in shadowkeeper it glows pink, hence my suspicion that it ties in with Drizzt.
EDIT the SCS2 randomiser caused it to be lootable, otherwise I suspect you would never get it. Possibly an unfinished business candidate.

I did the smart thing and cross-checked. HAMM05 is Ashideena +2 in my game, but IR Item Index says that Ashideena "replaced Borok's Fist, a plain warhammer +2 with +1 electrical damage sold by Ribald".

The "pink" issue is caused by Fixpack, which for some reason assigns a non-perfect bam to the hammer. Delete ihamm05.bam from your override and you'll fix the issue.

Ah, OK, no deeper meaning then. Pity. A case of 'never blame on malice and forethought what you can blame on chance and incompetence'.
