Il Divo,
The problem isn't really his use of the word gay...
Well, no, it is, really. For the reasons I've described in detail.
On an internet forum, which have infamous reputations for misconstruing even the most basic of ideas.
Did I think he actually meant that to be homosexual is to be stupid literally? No. Did I think the choice of words was insensitive and offensive? Yes, as well as unnecessary. Was there some literary merit served by using 'gay' to mean 'stupid' that was served? Obviously not. Some great political stand taken? No.
It is not difficult to accept that a word can have multiple
meanings. It is also not difficult to accept that people are generally
stupid and will take any opportunity to twist what another person says
to their own advantage.
Yes, obviously I'm unaware that words can have different meanings. That's very clear from my posts, Il Divo. Furthermore I'm clearly stupid, and your ad hominem attacks don't ironically convey a very different message than you intend.

However, the argument is over a word. That's just borderline retarded, and I'm a grammar nut.
If you call yourself a grammar nut, it really shouldn't be so strange to you. Words have different meanings, it's true. Meanings of words change over time, that's
also true. Meanings of the word 'gay' are changing right now, because the social stigma attached to being gay is changing.
Now, are you
really going to argue that the 'gay = stupid' meaning you're using in your review is attached to anything
other than, originally, a young male insult meant to convey that someone else might be a homosexual and thus worthy of contempt? Of
course not. That's what I meant when I said we ought to just cut the bullcrap earlier, smudboy. That's this particular usage of the word gay comes from. It's an insult, and it wasn't meant originally to be funny or harmless. And it's a
recent usage, one that is still meant more often than not as an insult and not just some sort of commentary on intelligence or quality.
If someone can get offended over a single word? These are people
not worth my time. The guy hasn't written anything of value in response
to my views or opinions. It's like saying the word "native" and
someone thinks I'm insulting Eskimos, Native Americans, Indians, or some
such. It's assinine and completely missing the point.
No, it's like you said the word 'native' and meant 'stupid' and were baffled when someone was critical of you for it. Let's be accurate. Communication is a two-way street. Words don't
just have the meaning you give them, they also have the meaning they have to those that hear them. With a word so easily communicated as 'stupid', why choose a word that identifies with a minority group when you're using an insult? Are you really that lazy?
