I will definitely have playthroughs that pursue same sex romances. That's probably a given.

During the same sex romance, it would be nice if my PC's gender were acknowledged outside the 'But we're both women!' moment.

Actually, when we reach the point where my romantic interest helpfully points out that we're both women, I'd like the option to express shock and surprise at this fact. "No Silk Fox, before this moment I had no idea you were a gal, that's how good your mask is. If only I had known, I wouldn't have spent the last hour or so flirting with you and avoiding even looking at Sky's direction lest the delicate orientation check in this game decide I want man-lovin. Thank you so much for informing me of this fact!”

What I’d like outside of the ‘we r gals’ conversation is a bit of flirtation that acknowledges the PC is female. If you’ve ever listened to the guy NPCs that romance, then tend to get a bunch of kinda sweet, romantic lines, and I’d like one of those lobbed my way.

I agree. A little more aknowledgement of the fact that the relationship is gay would be nice. Makes it more relistic, adds an extra layer of depth or anxiety even.

That's OK.  I'll make sure the poor guy doesn't feel ignored.   Although, admittedly, I won't be playing as a guy.  Hmmm....

I've tried to in the past, but since homosexual characters are often also ones available to heterosexual characters as well, I always picture them as they are during a hetereo romance playthrough, and then it unfortunately never feels right to me. I'll probably run into the same problem in Dragon Age, though I am considering making my dwarf noble gay. Not sure on that yet, though.

I probably won't check it out, but I am stunned by the fact that we have the option to do it.

I'm really proud of the developers for having the audacity to throw this in there, and amazed that they decided to go kick in some teeth instead of creeping off under a rock after the whole Mass Effect thing.



In fact, now I can't wait till someone tries to write a report on how pursuing a simulation of a gay romance in a simulation of an epic adventure is the great moral threat of our times, that is going to make my day when it finally happens.

I just hope that even if we can't romance the guy we want, we can at least flirt a little.  Would be amusing to see Alistair react to a guy hitting on him when he only likes women.

That would be a nice mod ... if you play a homosexual, you must keep it hidden - otherwise, all of Ferelden will react in a negative way towards you. The Chantry might even send the Templars.

That would depend largely on how similar the Andrastian faith is to the Abrahamic religions, no?

I don't think that a BioWare writer has yet commented on the Chantry's view on the subject, but I have a feeling that the Chant of Light probably doesn't concern itself with sexuality, leaving the priests and templar to throw up their hands. Just a guess, obviously.

Sex is no hangup in this world. Marriage is about doing your duty and procreating, and ideally the spouses will love each other, but love is no requirement. I like both of these facts because the latter is only realistic in a setting where your spawn/family are your only insurance, and the former is needed to differentiate the Chantry more from certain RL religions that DO have big hangups about sex.

Far as I remember, same-sex coupling isn't something that married, respectable people are supposed to do, but generally people are not going to have a screeching sh*tfit about it either.

I'm gay but generally don't care much for "romance" in games, so it remains to be seen whether one of my two human characters (the elf and dwarf wouldn't touch someone outside their species) will find herself in a relationship. It highly depends on the "avaiable" NPC, too -- if it's Morrigan, the chances are almost nil, if it's Leliana, it's a good deal more likely.
