Depending on where you live on Mother Eath, tonight or tomorrow night will be a rare coincidence of the Fall Equinox and the full Moon. My Elven friends and I will be out dancing and I hope you will join us. I'll be sure to play Neil Young's Harvest Moon on my guitar.
Come a little bit closer,
hear what I have to say,
Just like the children sleeping,
we could dream this night away.
But there's a full moon rising,
let's go dancing in the light,
We know where the music's playing,
let's go out and feel the night.
Because I'm still in love with you,
I want to see you dance again.
Because I'm still in love with you
on this harvest moon.
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar.
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.
But now it's getting late
and the moon is climbing high.
I want to celebrate
see it shining in your eye.
(hey, it's no worse than that stupid pirate thing)

More importantly, while not technically a harvest moon, it does mean that the lunar and solar calendars are 'synched up.' The solar calendar, by which we derive our year counts the revolution of the earth as a year and the rotation of the earth as a day. Our weeks, and, originally, our months are lunar calendar based. It's an elven and pagan event to celebrate to be sure.
The actual harvest moon is the next full moon. Close enough for me to hear some Neil Young.
Somewhere out on a desert highway, She rides a Harley-Davidson
Her long blonde hair flying in the breeze.
She's rode half her life, the chrome and steel she rides.
Colliding with the very air she breathes.
The air she breathes.
It's better to burn out, than to fade away. Yeah, Sieben, you play some Neil Young, baby.

Not to argue with the learned Sir Owl, but I've always heard "harvest moon" defined as the full moon closest to the Fall Equinox. However you define it, it's beautiful and the weather here is cloudless. With Jupiter trailing behind (visually, not astronomically) it's quite a sight. Besides, elves never need an excuse to party.

Ach, but here in Phlan all races mingle without rancor. And there are some comely dwarven lassies at the party, over there by that keg of fine ale and the kettle of beans and hamhock.
